Okay, Maybe I Was Wrong

May 12, 2006 1:00 am By Brian McCabe Leave a Comment

Alright, fine, maybe I was wrong. I thought I was cool enough to be the great prognosticator, but obviously, it did not happen. I thought the Cubs would pull through, things would be good, the world would be great. Then I turn around and I get shot down by the girl of my dreams and the Cubs lose 8 in a row and like 110 out of 112, or at least it felt like that. So much for the girl, it is her loss, right? Sidenote….if you are a girl and single, I sit in 409, stop by, I will buy you a coca-cola classic, and then ask you what your major was in college!

Anyway…

Life goes on, but then as I turn to the Cubs to get some happiness while I was down, they are in one of the worst streaks in the last forty years. No, I am serious, one of the worst offensive streaks in the history of baseball.

I thought we could get by, I thought we could make it all work, but I guess not. While I will not question Mr. Dustiny, I will say this…

Why is Todd Walker still batting 3rd?
I know Cedeno worked for one night in the leadoff space, but we cannot continue this.
Why did Murton hit 8th?
Why does he continually take JJ out early?
Who kidnapped Henry Blanco, this guy is not really a major league player?

I could go on forever, but I am really upset.

Will Jeff Conine really make that much of a difference?
Can Kerry Wood make any kind of impact?
Where is Mark Prior, what is his timetable, did he disappear?
What about Wade Miller?

So I am upset and angry, but it is too early to give up, way too early. We are hanging around, not too far back, and it will be okay, I HOPE!

We are half way through D Lee’s injury, Kid K is coming back, Wade and Mark should be close behind.

These are all things we are telling ourselves, and maybe we are thinking wishfully, but we have to. If this story does not change by mid June then maybe I will be singing a differnt tune, but until then, don’t call me a loon! (I like rhyming)

Sean Marshall did not look so good on Thursday, but he has had some great outings. Once we get some quality guys going on a regular basis, the confidence will be much higher. Watch these guys rip off a big winning streak once D. Lee comes back, Kerry will be back around, Prior will make people remember 2003, Wade Miller will anger Astros fans, and we will all be happy.

If that does not happen, well then, WAIT TIL NEXT YEAR! That is the best part about being a baseball fan, or any fan, there is always next year. No matter what happens, we will be back next April. Let’s just hope that at that time, we are talking about the previous October.

If you want to drop me a line, feel free to email me at brian@chicagocubsonline.com, I hope you enjoyed the column, and until next time….

Stay Classy Cub Fans!
