Talkin’ Cubs Live – Cubs vs. Diamondbacks – 05/04/06

Game Twenty-Seven: Cubs (14-12) vs. Diamondbacks (15-13)
Game Time – 8:40pm C.T. WCIU, WGN Radio, XM Radio Channel 188
Location – Chase Field, Phoenix, AZ

Rich Hill (0-0, -.–) vs. Juan Cruz (0-0, 2.65)

The Cubs look to their third rookie starter in the last 4 games to get a split against the Diamondbacks tonight in Arizona. Rich Hill will make his first start of the season for the Cubs. Hill was 0-2 with a 9.13 ERA in 10 games last season for the Cubs but was 1-0 with a 1.44 ERA in 4 games this season for the Iowa Cubs with 33 strikeouts and only 4 walks. Hill will face another former Cub Juan Cruz. Juan Cruz has pitched well for the Diamondbacks this season and his last game against the Giants was his first start of the season. The right-hander went 5 innings and gave up 1 run on 2 hits. Cruz has made 7 appearances out of the bullpen this season.

The Cubs offense looked a little better on Wednesday, but they left 11 on base including a chance in the 9th inning with the bases loaded and only 1 out. The Cubs have not been hitting the ball as of late and when they had they were making it count….on Wednesday they could not make it count.

The Cubs need to show patience against Juan Cruz and allow him to beat himself….this organization has seen him do that first hand. Although the Cubs lost on Wednesday, at least they hit the ball….the runs will come and hopefully Rich Hill will look as good as his promise has already.
