Minor League Report – 04/23/06

The Iowa Cubs continued their skid on Saturday loosing to the Round Rock Express (Houston Astros) 10-5, it was the Cubs fourth loss in a row. Les Walrond went 4 innings and gave up 9 runs, 5 earned, on 9 hits. Walrond is now 2-1 on the year for the Iowa Cubs.

The West Tenn Diamond Jaxx lost to the Chattanooga Lookouts (Cincinnati Reds) 9-0 on Saturday. JR Mathes took the loss, his first of the year, and allowed 9 runs, all earned, on 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings of work. Mathes had only given up 12 hits the entire season before Saturday. Iowa Cubs – With the loss on Saturday the Iowa Cubs’ record now stands at 7-10 on the season, 4 games back of the Nashville Sounds (Milwaukee Brewers) for the division lead. Felix Pie went 1 for 4 with a walk and 2 strikeouts, Ryan Theriot went 2 for 5, Buck Coats hit a 3-run homerun and Kerry Ligtenberg made his season debut in Iowa.

Next up for the Iowa Cubs is the Round Rock Express and the series continues through Tuesday. The Cubs have an off day on Wednesday, before the Memphis Redbirds (St. Louis Cardinals) come to town.

Rich Hill – 1-0/1.42, 11 hits, 5 runs – 3 earned, 23 strikeouts

Raul Valdes – 1-0/3.60, 16 hits, 6 runs, 8 strikeouts
Michael Wuertz – 0-0/3.00, 3 hits, 1 run, 2 strikeouts
Jeff Deardorff (4/6 – 4/21) – 13 games – .282 (11-39)/.333/.513/2 HR/3 RBI’s

The West Tenn Diamond Jaxx – With the loss on Saturday. the Diamond Jaxx dropped to second place, 1 full game behind Chattanooga. The Diamond Jaxx are now 10-6 on the year. Both Eric Patterson and Luis Montanez went 1 for 4 in the loss and were responsible for half of the Diamond Jaxx 4 hits.

Next up for the Diamond Jaxx is the Chattanooga Lookouts and that series continues until Tuesday before the Diamond Jaxx head back to Jackson to take on the Jacksonville Suns (Los Angeles Dodgers).
