The Minors Split on Tuesday

April 12, 2006 1:00 am By Neil Leave a Comment

Minor League Report – 04/12/06
Updated – 6:14am C.T. with a Roster Move and An Update on Brian Dopirak

With all of the comments left here at the CCO on Tuesday about Glendon Rusch and the health concerns of Jacque Jones and Aramis Ramirez….not to mention the other three, I thought this might be a good time to look at how the Cubs farm system is doing this season. This is one of the newer features and the CCO will be covering live games of the Iowa Cubs and West Tenn Diamond Jaxx during the season.

The farm system has been doing quite well so far this season….let’s take a look in on the Iowa Cubs and West Tenn Diamond Jaxx…. Both the Iowa Cubs and Diamond Jaxx are in first place. The Cubs are tied with the Omaha Royals (Kansas City Royals) with a 4-2 record, both 2 games up on the Nashville Sounds (Milwaukee Brewers). The Cubs lost to Ben Sheets and the Sounds on Tuesday, 4-1. Jae Kuk Ryu took the loss.

Iowa Cubs stat watch:

Felix Pie (4/6 – 4/10) – 5 games – .476 (10-21)/.500/.857/1 HR/11 RBI’s
Ryan Theriot (4/6 – 4/10) – 5 games – .421 (8-19)/.478/.474/0 HR/5 RBI’s
Brandon Sing (4/6 – 4/10) – 4 games – .267 (4-15)/.389/.267/0 HR/0 RBI’s

Jae Kuk Ryu – 0-1/3.60, 11 hits, 5 runs, 9 strikeouts
Angel Guzman – 1-0/0.00, 2 hits, 0 runs. 6 strikeouts
Rich Hill – 0-0/1.50, 3 hits, 2 runs, 6 strikeouts

The West Tenn Diamond Jaxx are 5-1 and 1 game ahead of the Chattanooga Lookouts (Cincinnati Reds). The Diamond Jaxx beat the Tennessee Smokies (Arizona Diamondbacks) 3-1 on Tuesday.

Adam Greenberg has struggled so far this season and is only hitting .188. Brian Dopirak has only played 1 game and Eric Patterson is off to a slow start with a .267 average.

Update – According to a report from Bruce Miles, Brian Dopirak will miss 6-8 weeks after breaking a bone in his left foot while running the bases last Friday. Dopirak was scheduled to have surgery on Tuesday

If there are any players you would like for the CCO to keep up with during the season, either leave a comment or send me an email (neil@chicagocubsonline.com) and I will make sure I add them to the list.

Update – The Cubs released Brian Boehringer on Tuesday.

The future is looking bright….
