Talkin’ Cubs Live – Cubs vs. Dodgers – 04/17/06

April 17, 2006 7:00 pm By Neil Leave a Comment

Game Twelve: Cubs (7-4) vs. Dodgers (6-7)
Game Time – 9:10pm C.T. on Comcast SportsNet, WGN Radio, XM Radio Channel 189
Location – Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles

Greg Maddux (2-0, 1.46) vs. Brett Tomko (1-0, 6.55)

Greg Maddux turned 40 last Friday and is showing no signs of slowing down. Maddux is off to an unbelievable start to the ’06 campaign and looks to improve to 3-0 against the Dodgers. The current Dodgers’ roster is full of former Cubs….plus the one that got away. Bill Mueller, Kenny Lofton, Grady Little and Nomar Garciaparra, who is on the 15-day DL, are all former Cubbies and then there is Rafael Furcal, who is off to a decent start for the Dodgers (.239/.352/.261), but is he really worth $13 million dollars? Juan Pierre’s stats currently stand at .261/.292/.326 with his performance on Sunday against the Pirates.

The Cubs have the 4th ranked offense in the National League, but the Dodgers are right ahead of them at number 3. Last season the Cubs swept the series against the Dodgers in Los Angeles and look to have a repeat performance again this week.

The Dodgers just lost 2 out of 3 to the Giants over the weekend and they will be looking to take their frustration out on the Cubbies. Jeff Kent was hit in the head in the game on Sunday and had to leave the game, his status for tonight’s game is uncertain. Kent has always hit Greg Maddux and the Cubs well.

Let’s hope the guys remember this is a business trip and do not become tourists in Los Angeles. Kerry Wood is scheduled to throw a bullpen session today and the Cubs will decide his next step soon.
