The Cubs Spring Training Report – Rainy Days in Arizona

March 11, 2006 5:22 pm By Neil Leave a Comment

Game Ten: Cubs vs. Royals – Rained Out
Updated – 7:21pm C.S.T. – News from Mesa and Capuano will Start on Sunday

For the first time since March 16, 2003 a Cubs Spring Training game has been rained out. The Cubs were scheduled to send Angel Guzman to the hill against the Royals, he will now pitch behind Greg Maddux on Sunday against the Brewers.

Sunday – The Milwaukee Brewers in Maryvale
The game will be on XM Radio – Channel 187, Game time is 2:05pm C.S.T. Greg Maddux vs. Chris Capuano

This will be the first meeting of what could be a very competitive year between the Cubs and Brewers. The Brewers have been a pain in the side of the Cubs for the past 2 seasons and if the Cubs want to have a successful 2006 season, the Brewers are one of the teams they must beat on a regular basis. The Brewers have been picked by many of the experts as one of the teams to beat in the upcoming season and on Saturday they received the news their star pitcher, Ben Sheets, will miss some time with a back strain and they have yet to set a time frame for his return.

Updated News from Mesa

From a report on Cubs.com, Mark Prior is scheduled to throw a simulated game on Sunday, Wade Miller played catch with Larry Rothschild on Saturday and is expecting another session off the mound soon and Kerry Wood could throw off a mound by early next week.

The Cubs reduced the spring roster on Saturday to 55. The Cubs sent Bobby Brownlie and Bryan Corey (#99) to Minor League camp.

Aramis Ramirez is scheduled to start Sunday against the Brewers.

Well that’s the news….and I’m sticking to it!!
