Game Thirteen: Cubs 2 Mariners 4

Richie Sexton and the Mariners out powered the Cubs on Tuesday at HoHoKam in front of a sell out crowd. Jerome Williams had a better outing only allowing 2 runs on 4 hits in 4 innings of work. Williams walked three and struck out one. Ryan Dempster gave up the 2 run home run to Sexton in the 5th inning with 2 outs. Bobby Howry did throw another scoreless inning, giving up only one hit and Will Ohman threw a scoreless inning as well, striking out two.

The Cubs did manage 9 hits, including the first out of the park home run of the spring by Angel Pagan. Pagan’s home run came in the 6th inning off of George Sherrill. Jacque Jones hit his third double of the spring raising his average to .375. Aramis Ramirez added a double as well. More from the game…. Ronny Cedeno continued his struggles on Tuesday going 0 for 2. Cedeno is hitting .143 for the spring. Neifi Perez went 0 for 2 as well and he is hitting .182. At least with Cedeno having his problems, Neifi is not pulling away and making Dusty’s decision easy.

The pitching stats looked a lot better than they have over recent days. Although Williams lost, maybe he is starting to settle in. Williams has never been a quick starter and this year is not any different.

Roster Moves on Tuesday

The Cubs optioned Carlos Marmol and Scott Moore to the West-Tenn Diamond Jaxx (AA) and reassigned Brian Boehringer, Carmen Pignatiello, Brandon Sing, Buck Coats and Adam Greenberg to the Minor League camp.

News from Mesa

Tuesday was likely the last day the Cubs will use the designated hitter in the Cactus League. The pitchers will start receiving time at the plate during live games soon.

Wednesday a Day of Rest

Next up for the Cubs are the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim on Thursday in Tempe. Neither the Cubs nor the Angels have announced the starters for Thursday. The Cubs will be on XM Radio on Thursday, channel 181.

Well that’s the news….and I’m sticking to it!!!
