February 25, 2006 6:23 pm By Neil Leave a Comment

The Cubs signed right-handed pitcher Brian Boehringer Saturday to a Minor League contract. He last pitched in the Majors for the Pirates in 2004 going 1-1 with a 4.62 ERA in 21 games. Boehringer has also pitched for the Yankees, Padres and Giants. Here are Brian Boehringer’s stats from the Baseball Cube.

Other news from Saturday in Mesa…. Kerry Wood threw off the mound for the second day in a row according to Cubs.com. Wood said he felt good and Dusty Baker said he is progressing the way the Cubs want him to.

Greg Maddux, Glendon Rusch, Bobby Howry, Scott Eyre, Scott Williamson, Angel Guzman, Will Ohman and John Koronka threw around 30 pitches each to live batters on Friday and the following pitchers threw to live batters on Saturday: Roberto Novoa, Jerome Williams, Todd Wellemeyer, Michael Wuertz, Randy Wells and Rich Hill. The Cubs will play an intrasquad game on Wednesday in preparation for the Spring Training opener against the Oakland A’s on Thursday.

Also, Aramis Ramirez did officially remove his name from the Dominican Republic roster earlier on Saturday (see report here at the CCO).

Check back for updates from Spring Training and the CCO will be in Mesa all next weekend for the first 4 games of Spring Training.

Well that’s the news….and I’m sticking to it!!
