Wood Files for Free Agency

According to a report on, Kerry Wood was among 42 players that filed for free agency on Friday. Wood, along with Jon Lieber and Henry Blanco joined teammates Ryan Dempster, Jim Edmonds, Bobby Howry and Chad Fox on the list of 107 Major League players that filed in the first two days.

Cubs Decline Blanco’s Option

According to several reports, the Cubs announced on Friday afternoon they have declined the 2009 option on back-up catcher Henry Blanco. Blanco’s option for 2009 would have been worth $3 million dollars…..Blanco made $2.8 million in 2008. The Cubs are expected to resign Geovany Soto’s mentor to a lower guaranteed deal.
