Life can change; direction can change; responsibilities can change, and when those things happen, certain things get lost. My changes have taken me away from two of my favorite things over the past month, the Cubs and writing about them. However, there is nothing like a fan convention to snap one back into shape, even if only for 48 hours. So without further ado, here are my thoughts from the 23rd Annual Cubs Convention.......

All of the excitement from the weekend dwindled on Sunday as the 23rd Annual Cubs Convention came to an end. The 15,000 fans that crammed into the Chicago Hilton and Towers the first two days was reduced by more than half. Those that remained divided their time between seeking out last minute autographs, haggling with vendors in the exhibit halls and attending the final two sessions. The three days concluded with the informative "Meet Cubs...

Santo spoke, Ernie espoused, Lou laughed, Jim joked.... Crane cracked, DeRo defied, Jody jostled, Les cried....Derrek dreamed, Hawk hustled, Sandberg saddled, and Sutcliffe was rattled, and in the end Pat talked, Bob shouted, Ron walked, and Len touted....this is a team to fear, a team we all hold dear, a team to love, a team to hate, but in the end a team of fate. And there he was, a man named Messmer, who was...

Day one of the 23rd Annual Cubs Convention was filled with familiar faces in the same old place. This year, though, is a little different. The same hope still exists, as it does every year, but instead of a winter spent trying to build a team, the Cubs have spent the off-season trying to mold a winner and build on the momentum that saw them win the Central Division title a year ago. As...

Harry Caray referred to it as the "unofficial opening day", some refer to it as the "kick-off to spring training", call it what you want but the bottom line is baseball is just around the corner. The 23rd Annual Cubs Convention officially begins later this afternoon at the Chicago Hilton. Pat Hughes will once again have the honor of introducing the Cubs past, present and future during the Opening Ceremonies before the annual highlight reel...

Is Brian Roberts coming to the Cubs? Could Jon Lieber be making a second appearance on the North Side? Are the Cubs interested in trading for Marlon Byrd? Bruce Levine discussed each of those topics with Chet Coppock on ESPN 1000 Saturday morning. Levine stated Peter Angelos is "laying down the law and will not trade Brian Roberts." Levine cited Buck Martinez from XM Radio as his source. Levine said the Indians offered a better...

Another week closer.... the Cubs announced on Friday pitchers and catchers will report to Fitch Park on February 13th, with the first workout on February 14th. Position players will report on February 18th with the first full team workout on February 19th. The Cubs made another minor move on Friday when they inked former Cub, Chad Fox to a 1-year minor league deal with an invitation to Spring Training. Fox pitched for the Cubs in...

As the Brian Roberts watch enters day four, could Jim Hendry be switching gears or are the Cubs still interested in acquiring the switch-hitting second baseman? The mainstream media in Chicago still feels the Cubs would like to add Roberts but a report from Ken Rosenthal on Thursday night mentioned two names that could signify a change of direction for 'Trader Jim'. According to Rosenthal, the Cubs could have interest in either Mike Cameron or...

The Cubs Convention will kick off two weeks from today, and boy am I excited! This will be the third year in a row I attend the Convention and it is quite an experience. I wrote a similar column last year, but I could not avoid doing it again. More and more people read the site than ever before and I want all to know the joy and pleasure of attending a Cubs Convention. Also,...

MLB front offices, like most of the business world, will return to work today after the long holiday break. Over the next month there should be more wheelin' and dealin', as well as free agent signings, as clubs prepare for Spring Training to begin in mid-February. Probably the biggest story to follow in the coming weeks will be that of Johan Santana. His future in Minnesota will have a domino effect throughout the league as...

Every year the Cubs Convention puts together that "must see" panel. Last year it was the All-Star panel with Banks, Williams, Santo, Jenkins, Sandberg, Smith, Dawson and Sutcliffe. While this year there were not nearly as many big names on the "can't miss" panel, it was just as entertaining. Since it is the 18th anniversary of the 1989 Division championship, or maybe it was because Grace was back for the first time, the Saturday afternoon...

With the convention in the rear view mirror, do the Cubs have any moves left before pitchers and catchers report to Fitch Park in just 23 days. This year's camp should be more competitive than in seasons past with an apparent abundance of healthy ballplayers competing for the last few spots on the big league roster. Several reports on Sunday and Monday mentioned the Cubs are very close to signing Cliff Floyd to a 1-year...

Congratulations to the 2006 NFC Champion Chicago Bears, the City of Chicago and their devoted fans from everyone here at the CCO!!! Day three of the 2007 Cubs Convention had a different feel from the rest of the weekend. The convention was held at the Chicago Hilton and overnight it became more like the New Orleans Hilton....the emphasis on the Cubs had been replaced by Championship Sunday. The vendors all packed up their belongings and...

Day two of the Cubs Convention was filled, as usual, with sessions that involved management, coaches and players. The big panel of the day is typically the first...."Meet Cubs Management". This year being the first with Piniella was interesting to say the least. The second major event of the day assembled Lou and his entire coaching staff in "Piniella 101" where the fans were allowed to ask questions while the coaching staff discussed their goals...

This year was different, the optimism remained the same but the message has changed. Every year the Cubs hope to have a winning season, this year they expect it. The blue "W" was everywhere you looked from the passes, to the large banner in front of the podium at the Opening Ceremonies to the top of every sign and advertisement in the hotel....the Cubs are all about winning and on Friday night they made sure...

Updated - 11:55am CST with Cubs 2007 Convention Schedule As the 22nd annual Cubs Convention kicks off this weekend, the feeling is like none prior, and no, not Mark. Usually, this weekend is a feel-good story, one filled with players from yester-year and idols from days gone by, showing up to rehash the good times as well as the opportunities lost. Normally, this weekend is about fun, family and fame, but this year, the story...

The 2006 Cubs Convention is over, but do not forget to check all of the daily recaps. There was a little bit of news in the Cubs Rumor Mill over the weekend. I would like to thank Brian for his great coverage of the Cubs Convention for Chicago Cubs Online. Here is Day 3 of the Cubs Convention.... As I walked into the final day of the Cubs Convention many people were on there way...

Saturday was full of questions for Baker and Hendry, a meeting of Cubs All Stars and pictures for the Cubs Faithful. Day two of the Cubs convention got off to a quick start with an action packed Question and Answer session with Cubs General Manager Jim Hendry and Manager Dusty Baker. Corey Patterson's name came up immediately, and Hendry addressed the situation by saying he felt this was the best thing for the Cubs and...

Day one is in the books at the 2006 Cubs Convention and the long Saturday lay ahead for Jim Hendry and Dusty Baker. What will the Cubs Faithful throw at the 2 of them? Derrek Lee threw out the first ball and here is the rest of Friday.... Forty year old men in full Cubs uniforms, seven year old girls rattling off Mark Prior's stats from 2003, people from all over begging for one minute...

Friday - Sports Central Live with Dave Kaplan The Cubs Convention got underway on Friday and will be covered throughout the weekend and into Monday on the radio. WGN Radio has plenty of coverage scheduled and XM Radio is there and will run its coverage on Monday. Here is the first recap of the Cubs Convention via the radio.... Dave Kaplan from WGN 720 did his Sports Central Live show from the Cubs Convention. He...

As the 21st Annual Cubs Convention gets underway today, I thought the CCO should take a look at the past. This is a unique look back at some of the earlier Cubs Conventions that include some UNBELIEVABLE pictures. Just sit back and enjoy this walk down memory lane.... MEMORIES OF CONVENTIONS PAST The magic of the '84 team had faded, but that didn't stop the faithful from filling up the Hyatt Regency for the 4th...

2006 Cubs Convention Schedule, Players Scheduled to Appear and WGN Radio Event Schedule The 2006 Cubs Convention starts tomorrow and so will the CCO's coverage of the Convention. Starting Saturday morning the CCO will post highlights from the Cubs Convention from Brian McCabe. Brian is a lifelong Cubs fan and will provide 'Another View of the Cubs' for the CCO. I am excited about having an additional writer covering our beloved Cubbies for Chicago Cubs...

The History of the Cubs Convention from the Creator of the Cubs Convention, John McDonough and the Manager of Special Events Joe Rios The Cubs Convention....why? I know every year the Cubs hold their annual convention to kick off the upcoming baseball season. The Cubs invite current and former players, people pile into the Hilton and it becomes 'Cubs Heaven', but how did it get started? There is little information on the Internet concerning the...
