The Cubs made four roster moves prior to Sunday’s finale against the Rays.
RHP Neil Ramirez was activated from the 15-day DL. RHP Jacob Turner was added to the 25-man roster and LHP Chris Rusin was optioned to Triple-A Iowa. To make room on the 25-man roster to activate both Ramirez and Turner, RHP Brian Schlitter was placed on the 15-day DL with right shoulder inflammation.
With the four changes, the Cubs 25-man roster stands at 25 players.
RHP Neil Ramirez was activated from the 15-day DL. Ramirez was placed on the 15-day DL on July 29 retroactive to July 26 with right triceps soreness. The Cubs tried to option Ramirez to Iowa to give him a break on July 26 before the team had to place him on the disabled list with right triceps soreness. Ramirez made two rehab appearances with the AZL Cubs and allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings while he was rehabbing his injury in Mesa.
RHP Jacob Turner last pitched for the Marlins on Aug. 3 and allowed five runs on nine hits with two walks and two strikeouts in four innings. Turner was 4-7 in 20 games, 12 starts, for Miami this season. In 78 1/3 innings, Turner gave up 106 hits with 23 walks and 54 strikeouts.
Chris Rusin’s shuttle from Iowa to Chicago continues. Chris Rusin pitched two scoreless innings Saturday in his second appearance with the Cubs since being recalled on July 30. Rusin has been on the big league roster three times this season and will be back in September when the roster expands.
Brian Schlitter has been one of Rick Renteria’s go-to guys this season. Schlitter has appeared in 53 games for the Cubs this season and allowed 21 runs, 19 earned, on 43 hits with 15 walks and 25 strikeouts in 49 1/3 innings.
Neil Ramirez and Jacob Turner will be available out of the pen for Sunday’s game against the Rays. According to multiple reports, Turner will pitch out of the bullpen for now and wear No. 38.
