The Iowa Cubs placed Javier Baez on the 7-day disabled list on Sunday morning with a left ankle sprain. Baez was dealing with a sore back prior to injuring himself taking grounders during infield practice prior to Friday’s game in Memphis.

After a slow start to the season that included an ejection and an altercation in the dugout with Eli Whiteside that has been downplayed by I-Cubs manager Marty Pevey, Javier Baez was 3-for-8 in the final two games with the Nashville Sounds (Milwaukee Brewers) with a home run and a double prior to the series with the Memphis Redbirds.
The I-Cubs backdated Baez’s trip to the DL to April 11.
The 7-day disabled list in the minor league equivalency of the Major League 15-day disabled list. From the tone of the reports, Baez’s injury does not sound serious.
