Cubs Release 2014 Spring Training Schedule

The Cubs released their 2014 Spring Training schedule on Monday. As reported, the Cubs will face the Arizona Diamondbacks in their Cactus League opener on Feb. 27 in the first game at ‘Cubs Park’, their new Spring Training home in Mesa.

The Cubs make their annual trip to Las Vegas (March 15, March 16) to take on the New York Mets at Cashman Field. This spring marks the tenth straight year the Cubs have participated in the Big League Weekend in Vegas.

The Cubs wrap up their spring schedule with two exhibition games against the Diamondbacks at Chase Field (Friday, March 28 and Saturday, March 29).

Individual tickets for Cubs’ Spring Training home games go on sale Saturday, January 11 at 11:00am CST.

The Cubs will play 16 games in their new facility this spring. The team is calling the new Spring Training home ‘Cubs Park’ until a sponsor is secured. The Cubs play 16 road games in the Cactus League, two in Las Vegas and two at Chase Field in Phoenix. The team’s only off day is Thursday, March 13.

Rick Renteria’s team is scheduled to play 36 games between Feb. 27 and March 29 and that includes eight split squad games.

Would have been a much better and tougher schedule if they were here in FL instead of in the desert. They could have as a schedule against: Twins, Red Sox, Rays, Yankees, Pirates, Phillies, Blue Jays, Cardinals.

    • Dorasaga

But again, they’ll play the Dodgers. Arizona has been hosting more teams since 2000, five teams moved from Florida to the desert, in fact:

I know that area very well.
Palm Beach County is an arm pit. The Roger Dean stadium has become home to 1,000 cats. People abandon their dogs and cats after their homes nearby in Abacoa went into foreclosures.
The old stadium in West Palm Beach was home of the Montreal Expos. Now it is a Home Depot.
Another ball park, Connie Mack Field was home of the old Braves teams of Hank Aaron. That turned into a drug neighborhood, then into a failed retail development center, back into a high crime drug / drive by shooting neighborhood.
Jupiter, Fl is looking to attract two more teams with a new stadium. Houston & Toronto are the teams.
Like Chicago politicians, there are local Palm Beach County & city politicians who are looking to score financially to score themselves in any new stadium deal development.

Wow, it must smell beside “The Dean.” Poops and paints. Not a good combo. On the other hand, both the cheap AAAA Marlins and World Series frequent flyer, a.k.a. Redbirds, had a deal with Palm Beach until 2017, despite paying the city fees and taxes that Arizona tried not to add. Interesting business with loads of “fish” down there, isn’t it?

We bought our plane tickets last night! Feb 24 – 28…maybe I’ll take my old man to the “opener.”

I would love to go to ST, but don’t see it happening for a few years.

      • John_CC

The airfare is cheap, 3 round trip, non stop tix for 800 bucks I think it was. My folks rent a condo and get to play with their grandchild. I get to go to the practice field in the morning and then sit around a pool and drink too much beer! Pretty rough.

        • Tony_Hall

Sounds like a great time. I am hoping when my son gets through high school, that my schedule will allow a trip to ST.

I will be at Caesars Palace in Vegas when the Cubs are in town.
    Lets party!

TB Rays just released Jeff Niemann ….. we just found our next project!!!! I’m guessing Theo has already made the phone call. … Actually, I think signing him would be a very smart move.

first lets look at medical records….
      then talk with his agent…..
then see if a deal can be made.
Could be like a Feldman type of project.

I think I have an excuse for a March trip now!

    • JasonOfTheBurbs

lol…how is that a vote down? Someone who hates March, I guess…
