From the Wire … Cubs DFA Cody Ransom, Activate Scott Baker from 60-Day DL

According to multiple reports, the Cubs designated Cody Ransom for assignment on Sunday morning to make room on the 40-man roster for Scott Baker.

Scott Baker has been officially activated from the disabled list and will start Sunday’s finale against the Brewers.

With the latest round of roster moves, the Cubs’ 40-man roster currently stands at 40 players.

The Cubs claimed Cody Ransom off waivers from the Padres on April 16. Ransom responded with a very good April (.280/.308/.720/1.028, two doubles and three home runs) and put up a .250/.331/.574 line before the break that included eight doubles, nine home runs and a .905 OPS in 39 games. Since the break Ransom managed just a .082/.211/.148 line. The writing was on the wall that Ransom would be designated for assignment at one point during September if the Cubs needed the roster space.

Scott Baker will become the 55th different player used by the Cubs this season, two more players than the previous franchise record of 53 set a year ago.

Another site called Ransom’s .203/.304/.449 Slash line doing well…

    Right.

They should have shipped him off for a international cash or a low-level nobody when they could have.

I don’t think anyone would have traded anything for him. He had a good month or two and then was just a roster filler.

McDonald, Neal, Boscan are the rest of the position player roster fillers who will be gone shortly after the season is over.

      To which team?…..
When you are at the bottom of the league like the Cubs, who would want your 25th guy on your roster?
      Right.

      • calicub

Ransom had been connected to a few teams prior to the july trading dead line. Even the 25th man on a bad team can be productive or useful on another team. Right?
        Right.

        • CubbyDenCritic

If Ransom had value, someone would wanted him at the July trade deadline….at the August waiver dead line.
          Right?
          Right.

I think Peyton Manning just threw another touchdown.

NFL Season has arrived…….now we can switch channels when the Cubs have someone like McDonald at bat or Russell pitching.

Football, Basketball, and Hockey are just filler sports for the months baseball isn’t played.

I’d rather watch paint dry for 4 hours than watch a game of football. At least when your watching paint dry something is happening the whole time rather than 10 seconds of play, 5 minutes of watching the clock countdown and another 5 minutes of commercials

I can’t stand the NFL. We are a great minority.

Yeah I know. But i’m glad i’m not alone. I get invites to join fantasy football every year and as fun as the show “the league” makes it look, i just can’t stand to follow an entire season.

          • John_CC

There is a TV show about a fantasy football league? God help us.

            Lol yeah it’s quite hilarious
