From the Wire … Cubs Designate Henry Rodriguez for Assignment

As expected, to make room on the active roster for Cole Gillespie, the Cubs designated RHP Henry Rodriguez for assignment on Sunday.

The Cubs acquired Rodriguez from the Nationals for minor leaguer Ian Dickson on June 12 after Washington had DFA’d Rodriguez earlier in the week.

The Cubs opened a spot on the 40-man roster by designating Rodriguez for assignment, the 40-man roster now stands at 39 players.

Henry Rodriguez made five appearances for the Cubs and gave up a couple of runs on six hits with a strikeout and four walks in four innings (4.50 ERA and a 2.50 WHIP). Rodriguez continued having problems harnessing the upper 90s fastball.

OH Henry! You have no idea where that ball will go after it leaves your hand.

    • J Daniel

      That, is not good!

Is the 40 man at 39 with the addition of Gillespie?

    • calicub

I do believe so as they had to dfa HRod to make room on the 25 man.

Hopefully that’ll open up room for someone like Chris Heston, J.C. Guitierez or maybe even a project like Jair Jurgens

Yes, the 40-man roster is at 39 players.

Heyman is reporting that Garza has been informed he will likely be dealt. That is a newsflash I guess.

Still don’t like it, hope it’s worth it if it happens.
