From the Wire … Cubs Activate DeJesus from the DL, Option Sappelt to Iowa

As expected, the Cubs activated David DeJesus from the 15-day DL on Wednesday and optioned Dave Sappelt to Triple-A Iowa. The Cubs had planned to send Junior Lake back down when DeJesus was ready to come off the DL but Lake has earned the right to stay in the big leagues.

David DeJesus has been on the disabled list since June 15 with a right shoulder sprain. DeJesus spent the All-Star Break rehabbing the shoulder at the Cubs’ facility in Mesa. DeJesus played in three games with the AZL Cubs earlier this week.

What makes the move with Dave Sappelt interesting is that he must remain in the minors for at least 10 days while on an option assignment unless he is recalled to replace an injured player. Sappelt cannot be recalled to fill a spot of a player that has been traded.

David DeJesus is hitting leadoff and playing in center on Wednesday night. Junior Lake is hitting second and playing left. The Cubs say this is a scheduled day off for Alfonso Soriano.

I needed the laugh … thanks Paul and I’m glad you are still posting. I hope all is well with you and your family.

Can we get Borbon to go where he belongs too?

      • That One Guy

        No doubt.

It’s interesting to me that Cole Gillespie wasn’t DFA’d. That’s a warning to Sappelt that they’re more impressed with him.
