The Daytona Cubs released a tentative 2013 Opening Day roster on Monday afternoon. The D-Cubs open the season on Thursday night, April 4 at Jackie Robinson Ballpark against the Brevard County Manatees.

Tim Saunders and Stephen Bruno will help round out the infield while Austin Kirk, Austin Reed, Ben Wells and Starling Peralta will be on the D-Cubs’ Opening Day pitching staff. While listed as an infielder here, most reports I have seen have Zeke DeVoss back in the outfield.

    • Tony_Hall

I was just going to ask that, as the infield looked pretty crowded.

I am assuming the starters to be Baez at SS and Geiger at 1B?? Bruno and Saunders should be the other 2 starters, but which one takes 2B and which one takes 3B?

      • Tom U

It looks as if there will be a rotation. The opening day infield should be Saunders, Baez, Bruno, and Geiger. Because Carhart can play 2B, 3B, and 1B, there will be a lot of moving in and out of the infield. Saunders and Bruno may also take some OF reps.

DeVoss is listed as an infielder on the roster. As Tom mentioned, DeVoss can play infield and outfield.

Last year, I tried to follow Austin Kirk,,,he did ok…but no promotion…He’s repeating high A again.
Over the winter, Ryan Searle kept me interested in Australian baseball.
It’s interesting to see how the Cubs value/rank their milb talent level.

Very surprised Kirk is not with the AA team.

I look forward to the day we can be as excited about our pitching prospects as we are about our hitting prospects.
