Cubs Sign Utility Infielder Donnie Murphy to a Minor League Deal

According to multiple reports, the Cubs have signed utility infielder Donnie Murphy to a minor league contract. Murphy is expected to report to Triple-A Iowa, the second former big leaguer added to the I-Cubs roster in the last 24 hours.

Donnie Murphy hit .216/.281/.379/.661 with six double, two triples and three home runs in 54 games for the Marlins last season. In seven big league seasons, Murphy owns a career line of .205/.270/.373/.643.

Murphy was in Milwaukee’s camp this spring, the 30-year old right-handed hitting infielder was released by the Brewers last week. Murphy can play shortstop, second and third base.

      I’m not sure what point you were trying to make here, but if you’d like to try looking at the brighter side of things Jackson, Watkins, Vitters, Rusin, Struck, Loux, and Raley are where I’ll be focusing my attention at AAA this year. The players you mention are simply filling the roster until some of our more legit prospects are ready.
