Jim Deshaies Lands Cubs Color Analyst Job

According to multiple reports, Jim Deshaies has been hired to replace Bob Brenly in the Cubs’ booth. Deshaies left the same position with the Astros to team up with Len Kasper to call games for WGN TV and Comcast SportsNet … ‘The Len and J.D. Show‘.

Updated 3:10pm CSTAccording to Alyson Footer, Jim Deshaies signed a four-year contract. The Astros countered the offer with a fair market value. Paul Sullivan reported that Len Kasper pushed hard for the Cubs and WGN to hire Jim Deshaies.

There were several candidates interested in replacing Bob Brenly in the Cubs’ booth with the job first opened but it appeared to be down to Jim Deshaies, Eric Karros, Todd Hollandsworth and Mark DeRosa in recent days.

Jim Deshaies has been calling games for the Astros since 1997.

I’ve heard nothing but great things about Jim Deshaies as a broadcaster. Should be fun to listen to!

solid move by the Cubs…(well, technically it was WGN/CSN that made the call with the Cubs’ stamp of approval). I’ve heard Deshaies holds nothing back in assessments of the team’s play, which will harken back to the days of Brenly and Stone. As a former player, he also sees the game through the same eyes that Brenly and Stone did as well.

As usual, you hit the nail on the head, Aaron. I’ve listened to J.D. for years and he is honest,a straight-shooter and interesting to listen to. Deshaies is always prepared and has tons of good information (not as much as Scully but then, who does?). As I mentioned in an earlier post, I believe Cubs fans are going to like him.
