From the Wire … Cubs Designate Jeff Beliveau for Assignment

According to the transactions page on, the Cubs designated Jeff Beliveau for assignment on Thursday. Beliveau was inconsistent a year ago while splitting time with the Cubs and Triple-A Iowa and struggled with throwing strikes.

Jeff Beliveau made his big league debut on July 22 and in 22 games he posted a 1-0 record with a 4.58 ERA and a 1.87 WHIP … 12 walks and 17 strikeouts in 17 2/3 innings.

Gotta say this is the first move be Theo and Co that I just downright disagree with on every level. This makes no sense, Beliveau had a lot of upside as a bullpen lefty. I would have DFAed Clevenger, Bowden, Conception, Rondon, Rosario, Rusin, Raley, Valbuena, Campana, and Sappelt before Beliveau. Honestly, what is the upside of Rondon, Rosario, or Bowden vs Beliveau, I don’t see it.

Easy answer….it’s all about throwing strikes and he hasn’t, though I agree they should’ve dropped someone else like Concepcion, Raley, or Rusin. This leads me to believe Antigua gets a NRI to ST

allow me to be excited for just a few moments; but if the Cubs really signed Anibal Sanchez………that would be stunning! and about time Ricketts put on his man pants and did what a major market team does………
so the next question is why trade Garza ??
when you could have Sanchez-Smardz-Garza all around 28-29 locked up..
…perhaps Theo and his Jedi have been reading my posts or Aaron’s or Rip’s or Pauls………..hmmmmmmmmmm…

I am assuming your smartphone is auto-correcting Jed’s name.

Maybe they have been talking to players all off season, they are just able to keep things quiet longer than other teams.

Multiple reports are the Cubs have signed Anibal Sanchez

holy crap. . Wow…so who goes then? Like I said before….i smell a trade brewing…a big one

Obviously, Beliveau had three major things going against him: he had never pitched for the Red Sox or Padres(or Brewers), and he was a Cub before Epstein was, and he hasn’t had TJ surgery. Therefore he is not qualified to be a Cub pitcher.
