According to multiple reports, the Cubs designated Rodrigo Lopez for assignment to make room on the active roster for Michael Bowden.
Lopez signed a minor league deal with the Cubs in the off-season that included a non-roster invite to big league camp. Lopez was added to the 40-man roster and activated prior to the second game of the season against the Nationals. Reports Sunday night suggested that either Lendy Castillo or Scott Maine could be the odd man out of the pen in order to make room for Michael Bowden.
By designating Rodrigo Lopez for assignment, the Cubs 40-man roster now stands at 39 players.
