Brett Jackson and Anthony Rizzo among Seventh Round of Spring Roster Cuts

The Cubs announced another round of spring roster cuts Friday morning. Anthony Rizzo and Adrian Cardenas were optioned to Triple-A Iowa. Brett Jackson, Jay Jackson, James Adduci, Michael Brenly and Bobby Scales were assigned to minor league camp.

Brett Jackson is not on the Cubs’ 40-man roster so he was reassigned and not optioned out.

The Cubs trimmed seven players in the seventh round of cuts. The Cubs spring roster officially stands at 40 (30 on the 40-man roster and 10 non-roster invitees.)

Brett Jackson did not sound too thrilled about being reassigned and told reporters his plan. Jackson said he is going to go to Iowa and “knock the crap out of the ball.” Dale Sveum told the media that is was tough sending Brett Jackson down. The Cubs’ skipper feels Jackson is ready to play in the major leagues.

From Carrie Muskat: Sveum on B-Jackson: “He’s the best young player I’ve seen in Major League camp. I’ve seen some good young ones. I think he’s the type of kid who will put pressure on us to get him here one way or the other.”

Trade Marlon Byrd…… B Jax is ready, and it’s a shame they had to send him down.

gosh darn it; WGN should broadcast the iowa cubs instead of the ‘real” cubs; not only are they better, but more people would watch it!

maybe that’s what jed meant by saying: highly competitive; he meant with the AAA team.
