Cubs Agree to Terms with 24 Non-Arbitration Eligible Players Including Jeff Samardzija and Starlin Castro

According to multiple reports, the Cubs agreed to terms with all 24 of their non-arbitration eligible players (0-3 years of Major League service time) Monday.

Jeff Samardzija agreed to terms on a contract for 2012 that will pay the right-hander $2.64 million. The Cubs declined Samardzija’s club option worth $3 million over the winter. Samardzija was paid $3 million last season.

Starlin Castro will be paid more than the Major League minimum of $480,000 in 2012. Castro agreed to terms on a contract worth $567,000. Darwin Barney ($500,000), Travis Wood ($505,000) and James Russell ($512,500) will also make slightly more than the league minimum during the upcoming season.

Other players that agreed to terms Monday: Alberto Cabrera, Lendy Castillo, Casey Coleman, Rafael Dolis, Marcos Mateo, Casey Weathers, Jeff Beliveau, John Gaub, Scott Maine, Welington Castillo, Steve Clevenger, Adrian Cardenas, Bryan LaHair, Junior Lake, Anthony Rizzo, Josh Vitters, Tony Campana, Dave Sappelt and Matt Szczur.
