From the Wire … Cubs Release Doug Davis

According to multiple reports, the Cubs granted Doug Davis his unconditional release on Wednesday afternoon. Davis posted a 1-7 record in nine starts since joining the Cubs rotation.

Darwin Barney was activated from the 15-day DL and will take Davis’ spot on the Cubs active roster. With the release of Doug Davis, the Cubs 40-man roster now stands at 39 players.

The Cubs have not announced who will take Doug Davis’ spot in the rotation.

Stay tuned …

Updated 4:16pm CDTAccording to multiple reports, Rodrigo Lopez will likely take Davis’ spot in the rotation and start Sunday against the White Sox. Bruce Miles reported that Casey Coleman will likely remain in Iowa for a few more starts. The other option to take the vacated spot in the rotation is Ramon Ortiz.

    Noooooooooooooooooooo  !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My fear is the #5 spot is now Rodrigo Lopez’ to lose, when it should be young Cub that we can evaluate at the major league level the rest of the season (Casey Coleman).

Glad to see him gone, but don’t know that we have anyone that is better.  Lopez is just as bad if not worse, and Casey Coleman has proven to me that he isn’t a major league pitcher.  Of the two, I’d rather see Coleman, if he gets his command under control he can be effective on occasion.  Maybe an opportunity to see if Samardzija can start?

    This really stinks!

I had Davis going 2-15 for the Cubs this year.

Is Lopez next?  That would make too much sense!

    I just checked the stats and discovered . . . .

The Cubs are 30th out of 30 MLB teams in:1. Quality Starts
    2. WHIP.
    3. Staff ERA
and are 29th in MLB in BAA.Now there’s some good pitching for you!

      Shocker :)

And I am sure that will not improve if Casey Coleman is going to get another shot.
