From the Wire … Riggins Named Cubs Pitching Coach

As expected, the Cubs named Mark Riggins pitching coach Monday on the first day of the Winter Meetings. Riggins replaces Larry Rothschild on the Major League staff and completes Mike Quade’s coaching staff.

Updated – 7:41pm CTAccording to a tweet from Carie Muskat, Dennis Lewallyn was promoted to Minor League pitching coordinator replacing Mark Riggins. Lewallyn served as the Smokies pitching coach last season and was rumored to be up for the Cubs’ pitching coach job.

Mark Riggins has served as the Cubs Minor League Pitching Coordinator for three seasons (2008-2010) after holding down the same position with the St. Louis Cardinals’ organization from 1996-2007. Riggins spent a total of 29 seasons with the Cardinals’ organization.
