According to a report from Bruce Levine, the Cubs outrighted Angel Guzman and removed him from the club’s 40-man roster. Guzman became a free agent in the process and re-signed with the Cubs on a Minor League deal.
Guzman’s minor league contract includes an invite to big league camp in the spring.
With Guzman removed from the 40-man roster, the Cubs have four open spots on the big league roster … one will be taken when John Grabow is activated from the 60-day DL. Angel Guzman will be in big league camp when pitchers and catchers report to Mesa in February.
Guzman, who has been plagued by injuries, had arthroscopic surgery to repair a career-threatening injury to his right shoulder suffered during spring training. Guzman had several screws inserted to repair a torn ligament.
