Cubs Close to Trading Derrek Lee?

According to a report from Dave Kaplan, the Cubs are close to sending Derrek Lee to the Atlanta Braves. The deal has not been finalized but Kaplan has been told “the trade is nearly done.”

One holdup, according to Kaplan, is the bulging disc in Lee’s back that has kept him out since Monday.

According to Kaplan, Derrek Lee will waive his no trade rights to go to the Braves because they are a contender and would give him another shot at winning a World Series ring.

The Cubs are not expected to receive much in return for Derrek Lee … except salary relief.
