According to multiple reports, Aramis Ramirez will suit up for the Peoria Chiefs this weekend. Ramirez agreed to a rehab assignment for the Cubs’ Class-A team and is expected to play Saturday and Sunday.
If all goes well, Ramirez could come off the DL on time Wednesday in Seattle. Aramis Ramirez has been taking batting practice at Wrigley since Tuesday. Ramirez said his thumb is not 100%.
When Ramirez comes off the DL, the Cubs will have to make a decision with the roster. According to a report earlier in the week from the Sun-Times, Chad Tracy cannot be sent back down to Iowa … and Jeff Baker is out of options. Baker has mashed left-handed pitching and has been very good at third … when given the opportunity. Another option could be a deal involving Xavier Nady … there have been rumors about a couple of teams being interested in Nady, but that is all.
The Cubs are doing the right thing by sending Ramirez out on a rehab assignment. If he is unable to come back after facing live pitching, it keeps Jim Hendry from making a premature decision … and dealing/releasing depth at third base.
Stay Tuned …
