Cubs in Talks with Jermaine Dye?

According to a report from Bruce Levine, the Cubs are interested in Jermaine Dye … and the interest is mutual. Dye has been connected to the Cubs by the mainstream media twice in the last week.

Jermaine Dye would serve as the platoon partner for Kosuke Fukudome, fill in from time to time in left for Alfonso Soriano … as well as receive time at first base backing up longtime friend Derrek Lee.

Jermaine Dye would have to accept a backup role on the Cubs … but could receive significant playing time if injuries in the outfield occur.

During the Cubs Convention, both Jim Hendry and Lou Piniella mentioned on several occasions they would like to add a fourth outfielder and a veteran right-handed arm to the bullpen.
