Kevin Gregg Files for Free Agency

Vote 0 Votes

The Cubs' former closer was one of 31 players to file for free agency on Monday. Kevin Gregg is a Type-A free agent but the Cubs are not expected to offer him arbitration or attempt to re-sign the right-handed reliever.

Kevin Gregg was acquired from the Marlins last winter for Jose Ceda.

The Cubs have only two potential free agents that have yet to file ... John Grabow and Chad Fox. Rich Harden and Reed Johnson filed last week and the Cubs are expected to let both players walk.

The Cubs are expected to re-sign John Grabow before the southpaw hits the open market. Reports have suggested that Grabow could receive a two-year deal with an option for 2012 worth more than $3 million per season.

Suzy, you ought to know JHendry by now. He'll sign Grabow, and Grabow will spend almost all of 2010 on the DL. When he comes back, he won't be as good . . . .

BTW before you leave K.Gregg...You are the best worse closer ever, thank you but no thanks. I don't recall anybody being more clutch...one thing is to be a very bad pitcher and antother thing is to be a very bad pitcher when it counts. Have a great life.

Correct me if I'm wrong but whoever picks up Gregg, being a type-A free agent, we get their first round pick and a supplementary (sandwich) pick, right? Sounds like a fair trade off.

Agustin is right, the Cubs must offer arbitration first.

No, we have to ofer arbitration in order for that to happen...and Gregg would be stupid not to accept arbitration if offered and we don't want that. Then again, he might blow that too!

It will be interesting to see who picks him up...AND...how they use him.

ie...the Phillies as a low cost insurance for Lidge? ( I don't think so...but then????).

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Bye! We really won't miss you Kevin.

Can we have Jose Ceda back? What a stupid trade!

    Chad Fox: forgetaboutit!
