Cubs-Pirates Game Cancelled

Vote 0 Votes

After a two hour and thirty-two minute rain delay, Thursday night's game between the Cubs and Pirates was cancelled due to inclement weather.

With the Cubs down 3-0 in the top of the fourth, Ryan Doumit stepped to the plate to begin the inning. Jeff Samardzija got ahead in the count 1-2 then the rains came. Two pitches later, the game was halted with a 2-2 count on Ryan Doumit.

The Pirates jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning after a RBI single by Garrett Jones plated Andy LaRoche ... who had doubled with one out. Lastings Milledge followed with a wind-blown homer to left, a two-run shot that gave the Pirates a 3-0 lead.

The Cubs put runners on base in the first three innings but hit into inning ending double plays in the second and third.

For the second season in a row the Cubs will play a 161-game schedule.

With the cancellation, the Cubs completed the season series with the Pirates with a 10-4 record. With the doubleheader sweep on Wednesday, Pittsburgh posted their first road series win since May 18 - May 21. The Pirates took two of three from the Nationals in the middle of the second month of the season.

Tom Gorzelanny is scheduled to face Billy Buckner, weather permitting, on Friday afternoon.

Only three games remaining this year for the Chicago Cubs ... then the real work begins.

Cloycub...many thanks for your posts also.

It was a horrible night for the Cubs, the same way it's been most of the season. I had so much hope for the team, and well, like every year so far, they're worthless. Hopefully the new owners will start making changes next week that'll make the team a stronger and better contender

As the final nails are driven in to the end of this season... I am reading some pretty ridiculous stuff regarding moves the Cubs can and should make.

#1...Gary freaking Sheffield. Ummm did I miss the memo that we were going to ignore younger, more talented players for old roided up malcontents. Why not dial Sammy's number. Just stop!!!

But, I am not going to fill this post with what we should not do. I am not even going to fill it with what we should do. I am simply going to say Thank you to Neil, Aaron, Suzy, and all of the rest of you out there that made a miserable season much more fun and interesting.

As they say on the Jim Rome show... War the CCO, War the RIGHT moves being made, and War the Cubs being a team we can root for again in 2010.

I AM OUT!!! See ya'll in the offseason.

Cloy...thank you, I really appreciate it.

As for Gary Sheffield, that name was floated out there by Phil Rogers ... so take it with less than a grain of salt.

  • Dorasaga

It was "Terrible Ted," now "Silly Lilly."

Hey, you gotta have fun after you stepped on the mound, and got swept by an insult to baseball--The Pirates is not going anywhere with 17 consecutive losing seasons and still a management full of lies:

A home game, standing ovation after one out, instead of completing a game?

  • Neil

Dorasaga, I did not mean to imply I was putting him down ... quite the opposite. I like the fact he is speaking up.

His comments about DeRosa took me by surprise a little.

    Nothing negative meant ...

Neil, I got a big chuckle out of "Z"s

    comment:

    Like Arnold Schwarzenegger said, "I'LL

BE BACK". "BELIEVE IT" HE SAID.

    "ALL NEW EPISODES NEXT YEAR".

    If nothing else...he's good theater.

I hope he works hard to finally become what he should be...an ace.
