According to a report on Cubs.com, Ryan Freel and cash were traded to the Royals for a PTBNL on Monday. The Cubs designated Freel for assignment on July 2.
The Cubs had ten days to either trade or release Ryan Freel. At least the organization will receive compensation for Freel ... and in turn Joey Gathright.

Another of the long line of Hendry brain moves. Like it stated... at least we got something.
Did he even hace time to unpack?
I don't think so. He had a few pinch hit abs but I never saw a game where he played the field. I personally don't think they gave him much of a shot and I see the same happening to Baker.
Eh, whatever...Lets hope he does well so we get a good player in return.
Any news about roster moves yet?
Freel had 5 or 6 starts and 28 AB's. He had 4 hits--all singles.
His days here were numbered the second he decided to not start the first day he was with the Cubs.
I'm just shocked that, not only do we get a player for him, but we got CASH too. It's like the Royals want to help us get better.
actually, the Kansas City Star posted that it was the Royals receiving the cash, not the Cubs (which makes more sense):

Aaron, thank you for catching. It was a typo on my end and I have corrected
Oh, I take back what I said then. The Royals are kinda douchebags for making us pay for them to take Freel. They better give us a mid-level prospect out of this deal.
I went back and looked. The report on MLB.com said Freel for cash and a PTBNL ... so?
I have a bridge in Brooklyn and 2 corner outfielders to talk to KC about as well.
