Cubs Down on the Farm Report - 06/15/09

Vote 0 Votes

Here is your end of the week update from our Young Cubs. There was some interesting movement in the transaction log this week.

Brandon Guyer couldn't hit his weight at Tennessee so he got sent down to Daytona while Todd Blackford was throwing so poorly in Tennessee that I was surprised that Daytona was as far as he was demoted. Doug Deeds getting demoted to Tennessee was a little surprising, but I think it was more of a numbers situation than anything else; Jake Fox returned this week to Triple-A and Jason Dubois has been hitting with authority, so there really wasn't going to be enough playing time for him in Iowa.

Thanks for reading and as always you can check out my site at YoungCubsWorld.com for daily updates.

I love it, we bring Fox up to sit him. Then send him down so we can sit him because we have another hot bat. This organization really knows how to build from the inside...take a hot bat and cool it so its as cold as the professional teams.

I'm not sure what is meant by Fox not getting enough playing time in Iowa. It looks like he's getting his AB's, based on the stats since he's been sent down.

I think Beaker might have misunderstood the post above. I believe when it was talking about Deeds being demoted, he might have thought that was Fox. If you skim over it fast, it kind of reads like that, so hopefully he understands now.

Fox has played everyday since being sent to Iowa, and has done well. No home runs, but a triple and a few RBI's, and it looks like he's getting some action in RF, which is VERY interesting. The reason why it's interesting to me, is he only had a few games out there prior to his call-up, otherwise he was typically at 1B. Could this be showcasing him for teams? Or might this be an indication they've finally soured on Bradley?

In checking on Fox...what I found interesting is A) He hasn't played any 3rd base since going down and B) They used him at DH the other day....He still doesn't get the Luxury of one position to settle into.
