Vote 0 Votes

According to conflicting reports from the Chicago Tribune, Aramis Ramirez could be out anywhere from four to eight weeks. In the report, the timeframe is four to six weeks but in the online preview, the timeframe is six to eight weeks.

The Brewers medical staff had to pop Ramirez's shoulder back in place and he will have an MRI on Saturday.

Updated - 11:25pm - With additional information - Bruce Levine reporting Ramirez out for at least a month - Chicago Tribune changed report from 6-8 weeks to 4-6 weeks

Aramis Ramirez is scheduled for x-rays Friday night and a MRI on Saturday. According to a report from the Sun-Times, Ramirez is expected to join Carlos Zambrano on the DL.

Will update as information becomes available...

Update 11:25pm C.T. - According to a report from Bruce Levine, Aramis Ramirez will "likely have to have surgery to tighten the shoulder after the season." Levine reported this is the third injury to Ramirez's left shoulder...once in August of 2000 that cost him the final month of the season and once in August of 1998 that shelved Ramirez for just under a month.

Ramirez will reportedly travel to Chicago on Friday night for an MRI on Saturday.

I was out a month when my shoulder had to be popped back in.

cant jake fox play 3rd?

No. Fox can barely play first.

They tried Fox at third in the spring and the experiment did not last long.

I know sometimes my reports are read and sometimes they are not, but I have seen Fox play first base in Spring Training and he tries very hard but is below average.

This is not scouting reports, or from Baseball America, this was with my two eyes.

I almost cried watching ARAM in that much pain...it looked like he might have cried too

very serious injury to ARAM and the team

lets keep him in our prayers

Bet we would all feel a little better about this if Derosa were still on the team. We have lost all of the depth we had last year. Hendry screwed us big time this offseason and left us in the a tough position if this exact situation happened. As a matter of fact, someone on this site stated that Derosa was great insurance for Ramirez.

Jeff, that would have been me and countless others.

It WAS a boneheaded move to trade DeRosa, wasn't it?

I am starting the FIRE JIM HENDRY thread tonight.

Maybe Cleveland won't resign DeRosa next year and we'll have a better GM so we can resign DeRosa...that's the best I got right now. Otherwise, yeah, we're kinda screwed. Maybe Freel will be a great pickup, cause Fontenot at 3rd is not a fit and Miles is not an everyday guy (or, from today's showing, a semi-regular player).

A REAL man comes back after 3 -4 weeks. I had the same done to me, with slight nerve damage and I was throwing and swinging just like normal after 3 almost 4 weeks. These high $ players will sit for the max time becuae Hendry will make him. You'll see. Remember Hee Seop Choi? Remember Bill Miller? Remember Derek Lee? HUH! Big Z? he'll miss 2 more starts with a pulled hammy.....come on!!!! Does this evere happen to Pujols? I'm just pissed out this whole f-ing situation and our dedication. Our bullpen SUCKS!! We can't score runs in key situations..oh... and Thanks Hendry for GIVING away DeRosa for NOTHING!

Really Mark? Your going to call out a professional baseball player for not being a "real man", the day after his injury, when neither you or anybody else has any idea as to the exstent of his injury. Thats really weak.

If he has ligament damage, that is not a fast healing thing. If thats the case we'll be lucky to have him back in 8 weeks.

What possible evidence do you have that Aram is dogging it in regards to his injuries? NONE.

Sorry, but my wife is a physical therapist, and I've gone through the same thing myself, so I know a little about how slow theese things heal. Depending of which if any ligaments tear, and how much the remaining ones have been stretched, determines the recovery time from this type of injury.

For you to basically say your more of a man than Aram, because your particular injury only had a recovery time of 3-4 weeks is probably one of the most rediculous posts I have read on here in a long time.

Amen. "Real man" please

ya its a crappy situation...everyday its like somethin new, and especially the way Aram was swingin the bat

BUT stop bringin up Derosa, its extremely clear that dero had to go if our team was to get more balanced and if you checked the stats of the 3 pitchers we got for him you would see that there is a lot of potential among them.

I really think this will spark bradley to start pickin up the slack, hopefully he can heal on the quicker side...

remember we were without soriano for 60 something games last season and STILL won 97...this will hurt but the Cubbies will prevail and I still like our chances in the division alllll day

Please explain the "more balanced" comment. Because every time I try to run the situation through my head, it winds up that, no, no we are not more balanced.

Hope your right bill, cause Dero was a lot to sacrifice for balance. I'm all about "potential" but there are a lot of us this site that are not impressed by that word thanks to Rich Hill, Felix Pie, Corey Patterson, Gary Scott, Matt Murton, etc...

We traded Dero for Bradley. I like the Bradley pick-up, but I never really wanted to lose Dero unless that came with a Peavy deal.

Hopefully guys can step-up in ARAMS absence. We need Lee, Soriano, and Bradley to put this team on their shoulders. As long as Fontenot, Theriot, and Koske do what they are supposed to we can weather this storm. A little contribution with the bat from Soto would be nice as well.

Here's to hoping the injury bug goes and bites someone else for a while.

ARam missed six weeks the first time it happened. Assume an equal amount here.

Was checking the Peavy career stats and found that Peavy is 2nd worst in MLB for holding runners on (for career). Runners have 83.4% success rate running on him. He loves to give up taters even more than Lilly, too. Likes the big ballparks to keep the non-steroid users flyballs inside the park. I think Cubs' fans ought to forget Peavy.

Freel has no pop in his bat. .374 slugging is poor for a shortstop. What do I mean? He ain't no savior. Think Caesar Isturis at the plate (not with the glove).

How'd ya'll like that Soto PH for Funko last night with the bases loaded? Only problem was there were two outs, or that would have been a beautiful 6-4-3 Double Play.

Cubs have three large holds in their everyday lineup right now: 3B, RF, and C. That assumes Funko doesn't continue to slide offensively.

You want offense while ARam is out? Move Soriano to 2B, Fontenont to 3B, and Jake Eugene Fox to LF. Hoffpauir plays 1B, and JHendry needs to pray he can find a catcher. (Don't ask me where; I dunno).

P.S. Bill... you can't expect someone to not bring up Dero on a night in which we just lost ARAM for 4 to 6 weeks. Dero would have been a great sub,I realize its in the past, but it sure would be nice.

Can Ryan Freel Play 3rd?

We'll find out soon. Freel is either going to make Hendry look like the genius we called him for the DeRo and Harden moves or an idiot we called him for the DeRo and Wood moves this year.

You people are ridiculous. none of you know what you are talking about. Hendry was given a total payroll amount and he did his best to fit a good team within those restricions. if wood was brought back then he wouldnt have been abl to do anything with the offense, which is the problem at the moment becuase of all the injuries. Yea Bradley hasnt done much yet, but he will hit, his track record suggests 280-300 hitter when healty and he appears to be healthy at the moment. The problem is the cubs are restricted by the big contracts of Lee, Ramirez, Zambrano, Lilly, Fukudome, and Soriano. Now some of those contracts are brilliant or very necessay. But the constant crying for Kerry Wood has anyone looked at his numbers thi year 1-1 with a 7.20 era 5 saves and 1 blown saves. Gregg (his replacement) 0-1 with a 4.40 era 5 saves and 1 blown save. Gregg has pitched better. and the crying for Derosa is over blown also. I love Derosa but it for his versatility more than his offensive ability which Fontenot matches. And the Cubs figured with their offensive depth Derosa wasnt needed in the Outfield mix this year and they were right. Derosa .244 6 21. Fontenot .239 5 17. almost the same offensivley. Quit your Crying.

On a sidenote, I like seeing gray names...it lets me know the post is seldom worth reading, very likely to misspell most of the words, and frankly just be insults aimed at about everyone.

For the record, Wood is pitching in the AL now. That means his ERA can be taken, cut in half, and you'd have his NL ERA.

Cut in half? do you know what you are talking about, do you research or just come up with random number without any basis. the era difference is .3 runs per game. not half.

Is Freel still on the DL, if so we should play Fontenot at third and Freel at second and on another day switch it around and see who does better at third.

I also think JH is a good GM and will will make a trade in the next 2 months that will make are team better.

anyone but miles starting

Hendry has only been marginally successful strictly based on the budget handed to him. For crying out loud, if you gave me a budget of around $140m a year I could figure out what players to add without all these darn long term/no trade contracts.

Without Ramirez our lineup absolutely stinks, and dream all you want but this season is OVER. We only have one legitimate hitter currently and that's Theriot. Everyone else is a "C" player (Miles, Bradley, Fontenot), is over the hill (Lee, Soriano), is out of shape (Soto) or is ready to crash and burn (Fukodome). Where does anyone think run production is going to come from in this lineup?

At this point I'd bring up Fox (put him in RF), and let him Scales and Hoffpauer get every day at-bats and hope they can develop. And if you really want to get creative, bring up Vitters, give him 3B, and have at it.

What the kool-aid drinkers here won't admit is that with the trades of Wood and DeRosa you lost the soul and emotion of this team. This team is about as boring as they come these days. And we have a manager that's on his last leg.

On a separate note, I read on MLBTradeRumors that the O's might try to sneak Pie down to Triple A via waivers. I'm still amazed in our farm system that raved on this kid for years as a 5-tool star-in-the-making, and now his "career" is likely done. At some point franchises are going to wake up and stop filling their minor league ranks with washed up, former players to be coaches, and instead start investing in "business coaches" to help these youngsters deal in the mental and transitional aspects of the game, and life in general. Pie may not be the brightest bulb out there, but someone should have been working with him on just the mental and daily evaluation approach to the game. The same goes for Rich Hill. Just a shame.

Bryan, you should have read who wrote that column about Pie. While he has not performed, Phil Rogers is seldom right and is very bad at math.

Last season, I thought we were A clutch
hitter away...this season...with the
offense, health and bullpen issues...we appear miles and miles away...BUT
A)If miles/bradley/Fontenot/Soto/Lee/and now Freel...can just hit CAREER averages
our offense should still be just one clutch hitter away.

2)I am encouraged with our starting pitching...including Wells.

3) Our bullpen needs work...
assume we keep Marmol/Guzman/Gregg.

Here's the questions:

1)What CLUTCH hitters might be available
by the trading deadline...and who would fit?

2) Do you think Wells could replace Heilman when Z comes back?

3) If Heilman and Gregg go on the block
for other arms...what other pitchers out there...MIGHT be available...that could really help?

4)I guess the fourth question IS: if things don't change by the all star break,
Do you think Ricketts will try to blow up
the team...and make his own?

Well, ladies and gents, there definitely is a cloud hanging over the Cubs these days. There are sure signs of a long, disappointing season ahead...key injuries, disappointing start, middle relief woes, major inconsistency, not to mention less than stellar performances by important folks like Soto, Lee, Bradley...I won't go on. This team really performed well the last two seasons and then couldn't handle the pressure of the playoffs. Baseball comes back to bite those who don't seize the prize when opportunity knocks. Hope I can be proven wrong but don't count on it.

To point out something that's being overlooked here, our starting staff has been right-on and spectacular. Even Marshall is giving us chances to win ballgames and Wells was impressive.

I agree, things are scary. But if the Cards didn't get off to as hot a start as they did (they're what, 19-11?), I think we'd be worrying just a little bit less. Just watch. The team has found a way to win games without Bradley, without Ramirez before last week, without Lee (not much said there, though!), and GASP without Mark Derosa.

Let the team play, and we'll be okay. Look for Bradley to take it up a notch, too....
