The Cubs officially released Luis Vizcaino on Monday according to a report from the Chicago Tribune. The Cubs designated Vizcaino for assignment on April 23.
Vizcaino is owed $3.5 million for this season that includes a $500,000 buyout for 2010.
Bruce Levine discussed Luis Vizcaino's release during his show on ESPN 1000 last Saturday morning. According to Levine, Vizcaino showed up late on Opening Day in Houston which did not sit well with Lou Piniella...and did it again for the second game of the year. Piniella was done with Vizcaino at that point.
Vizcaino reportedly got off on the wrong foot with the Cubs after reporting to Spring Training out of shape. Visa problems delayed his arrival and showing up not ready to compete did not help his situation.

At this rate, in hinsight, I'd rather kept Marquis.
If anything, you know you'd get another hot start out of him, just like the Rockies are now.
What a total waste. I knew his pitching ability was suspect...I didn't know he was a jerk too. Baseball should have a breach of contract clause...why should the Cubs be stuck for his salary if he doesn't care enough to show up on time.
He actully wasnt pitching that bad. Cotts should of been relesed and bring up Waddell and Samardzija cgot called up to early.
this is a prime example of why we as avid fans should be smart enough to wait till all the facts come out before we pass judgement on the powers that be. i for one was puzzled at the lack of work he was getting. i mean he was pitching pretty well. it is sad when someone with the talen he has can just cash it in. that is one reason i believe lou does so well. he doesnt put uyp with lack of effort and once that happens a player must really change in order to gat back on his good side. if major league players do it the right way then they well more times than not have success.
He wasn't pitching well. He pitched four innings, and if you watched in person, you'd have seen screaming line drives and miraculous diving catches everywhere.
Lou lets the big dollar players push him around all the time: Bradley, Soriano, Zambrano, are easy examples. The best team players are traded away: Mark DeRosa, for example.
JHendry is a poor GM. Here's just another example of tossing money away for worthless junk.
Wow. You must be in the clubhouse with Lou to know that.
I for one a glad the Vizcaino is gone. Should have waited until end of may then trade Marquis. Vizcano reminded me of a old tired Marmol.
Wow, this was news to me. I guess the Cubs learned their lesson before with making the Sosa debacle public. They were trying to posture in this case, hoping they could get a decent low-level minor leaguer for Vizcaino. Hell, if they'd learned the same silent approach with Sosa, we might have received a greater return. Anyway...
Vizcaino was and is absolute garbage. He doesn't belong in the big leagues, and never has. He hasn't really looked in shape, and probably doesn't care. Why he received the deal he got is beyond me. Wuertz and Ohman have better stats than that guy.
DAMN!!! What a waste,3.5 MILION DOLLARS!!! What a job to have and get fired from, huh?
That is what Jim Hendry does questionable trades.Look at the Michael Wuertz and Jose Ceda trade, those was to bad trades. I thought the Rich Harden trade was good however I did not the fact that we give up Sean Gallagher.
