Ramirez Out at Least Three Days

Updated - 12:46pm C.T. - According to reports from the Sun-Times, MRI on Carlos Marmol revealed a grade one sprain and he is expected to throw in the pen on Monday with a return targeted for midweek.

Aramis Ramirez reported to the park and his strained calf was no worse than Friday night. Ramirez is out of Saturday's lineup and they have not placed Milton Bradley on the DL yet. Without Bradley and Ramirez, the Cubs bench will consist of Koyie Hill, Micah Hoffpauir and Joey Gathright.

According to a report from Bruce Levine on Talkin' Baseball, Aramis Ramirez is expected to be out of the lineup for at least three days. Levine spoke with his sources just before his show on ESPN 1000 began Saturday morning.

The Cubs will re-evaluate Ramirez on Saturday. Levine did not have an update on Carlos Marmol, who left with Friday night's game with a strained muscle on the inside of his left knee, will also be re-evaluated on Saturday.

According to a report from the Sun-Times, Lou Piniella and Jim Hendry discussed the Cubs roster following Friday's game for about 45 minutes. With injuries to Milton Bradley and Aramis Ramirez, the bench is very short and could force them to bring up some help from Iowa.

The Sun-Times mentioned Bobby Scales and Andres Blanco as possible candidates, neither one of the players are on the 40-man roster and Milton Bradley could be a candidate for the DL to make room for an addition from Triple-A.

It's the end of the world!!!

  • ripsnorter

No, but it may be the end of 2009 Cubs hopes though.

not too mention, we gave away Cedeno too. I know he's not all star, but I would rather have him than Miles....along with Dero, of course. JH made a lot of strange moves this winter.

  • Bryan

Don't you sense that the club had a hunch of some potential health issues with Ramirez? There was certainly a lot of emphasis mid/late spring training regarding a back up for him.

And regarding DeRosa, that trade, 15 games into the season, is already biting us big time. Nice job, captains JH/LP!

  • Boseph Heyden

I'd rather have kept, and possibly re-signed DeRo and not signed Bradley. Miles is just horrible and Fontenot is a questionable 3rd baseman (unproven is more appropriate).

  • SuzyS

Damn $$$. That's the only reason we don't have Dero. At this early stage...it does seem that every move

JH made over the winter....weakened us.

  • Joe S. (San Diego)

What is really horrible is that we didn't have money for D-Ro....but we have 6 million to waste on a couple of players we released thereafter. (Gaudin/Vizcaino)....

We are very weak off the bench, which also means when an injury happens it kills us.

Maybe if Ron Cey isn't busy he'd like to fill in a few games...lol Heck, I'll even take Keith Moreland....

  • SuzyS

Agreed. The whole thing whole off season does not make sense...JH put blinders on

to go after Bradley...The only defense for his moves were the uncertainty of the economy and no leadership from above.

When DeRo went...I assumed a bigger deal was going to happen...and never really materialized. We need warriors and have cadets and wounded.

If we don't make some savvy moves soon...

the whole season could unravel...and without an owner at the helm...who knows.

OK guys...how do we fix this thing?

  • Jim C (Tinley Park)

This is where not having Derosa hurts us.

Miles is a 2b by trade with some experience at ss, he is not 3b.

  • ripsnorter

Right on. That DeRosa trade was bad management.

  • Boseph Heyden

    Yep...this sucks.
