According to a report from Bruce Miles, Paul Bako and Koyie Hill will compete for the backup catcher's job. Miles reported, "Bako wasn't brought in just to be handed the job."
The Cubs like Koyie Hill and according to Miles, the Cubs staff liked throwing to Hill last year better than they did Henry Blanco.
After the Cubs inked Paul Bako, Bruce Levine reported Paul Bako's deal would not become guaranteed until the end of March. If the Cubs release Bako before, they would be responsible for 20% of the $750,000 contract.

could hill be the next soto???
soto is still somewhat of a rookie maybe bako could pick up where blanco left off...i hope bako knows he will not start so maybe he could fill sotos ears with some usefull knowledge. i say bako but spring training brings surprises
This makes more sense. It did originally, seem to me that the Bako signing worked directly against Hill's chances. I like both of them about the same - lets see how it shakes out this spring.
IMO Bruce Miles is just saying that because he heard it. I do not believe that Hill has a fair shot. I like Bako but his signage was unnessesary.
Who would be the 3rd catcher on the 40-man if Cubs released Bako? Apparently Fox is no longer a catcher. Just curious.
