According to a report from Cubs.com, Lou Piniella named his starters for the first three games of the exhibition season. A day after announcing Jeff Samardzija would start the opener on Wednesday against the Dodgers at HoHoKam Park, Piniella has penciled in Sean Marshall and Ted Lilly to start the next two games.

Sean Marshall will take the hill on Thursday against the Brewers at HoHoKam. Ted Lilly will start the first road trip of the Cubs’ Cactus League schedule on Friday against the Rangers in Surprise, AZ.
The Cubs face the White Sox Saturday at HoHoKam then travel to Peoria on Monday to take on the Padres.
Update – 4:45pm – According to a report from Cubs.com, Mitch Atkins will take the hill for two innings following Jeff Samardzija in the opener against the Dodgers.
Carlos Zambrano and Ryan Dempster are not scheduled to pitch in the first turn through the rotation. Rich Harden, according to the report, is about 10 days behind the other starters.
The Cubs are planning on making a decision on whether Carlos Marmol or Kevin Gregg will be the team’s closer about three-quarters of the way through spring.
