According to reports from the Sun-Times and the Daily Herald, the Cubs avoided arbitration on Tuesday with Michael Wuertz by agreeing to a one-year deal worth $1.1 million.

Michael Wuertz was the Cubs last arbitration eligible player for 2009.

After inking Reed Johnson, Neal Cotts and Chad Gaudin in December to one-year contracts, the Cubs locked up Ronny Cedeno, Kevin Gregg and Michael Wuertz in the last week.

I think Wuertz will play an important role in our bullpen, he basically the only Veteran in the pen. Forty5 did you remember that Wuertz hell up win an important game by getting out of a bases loaded jam.
