According to a report from ESPN.com, Randy Johnson agreed to a 1-year deal with the San Francisco Giants on Friday. The Cubs were rumored to be interested in the Big Unit once they traded Jason Marquis and if they did not acquire Jake Peavy.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed according to the report on Giants.com.
Randy Johnson is five wins shy of 300 for his Hall of Fame career and will join a very good rotation in San Francisco....Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain, Barry Zito. The addition of Johnson marks the first time since 2002 (Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux and John Smoltz) that a Major League rotation has featured three Cy Young Award winners

I believe this could give the Cubs a better chance at getting a front-line starter like Peavy. Who knows what Hendry is going to do...
Not sure how this gives us a better chance at acquiring a front-line starter. It seems to me that this just reduces our options ... which are slowly running out. This sale of the team thing may really ruin our offseason.
Okay, let's go Hendry.....you go out and get a player, no more settling for what's left. Time's ticking....
It doesn't look like it's going to be fun facing the giants this summer. With the way we've handled 'Top of the Line' pitching lately. Scary. It's too bad we missed out on RJohnson though. I would have liked to have seen his dominating stature in Cubbie Blue.
I would have liked to see that too. I think Johnson wanted to go to SF from the beginning since he is from Northern Cal....great way to close out a career.
Greetings from the Big Apple. Grandsons, 7 and 5 still look like early round draft choices in 15 years. Son, the I-banker still employed--which is a tribute to honororable work surviving greed. We did watch the annusl Dec. 26 Brinks trucks parade on Wall St. CC, Tex and ARod each had two trucks in the parade. Madoff's clients (who lost billions in the Ponzi scheme) had 20 trucks--mostly empty because he made off with their money. The Wilpons, owners of the Mets, lost $300 mil. Of course, that won't buy 2 top first basemen these days.
My first wife's Xmas card was a little disturbing. It said, "I'll love you when you are wrinkled, gray and old--but I won't be with you. So I will continue to sidle up to the younger honies and tell them that I'm old enough to be your....brother.
Unless jet lag has detracted from my memory, I'm thinking that Fergie was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1991.
Re. R. Johnson, at $8 mil to sign, plus incentives, we couldn't afford him. I expect that we all have to await the negotiations with Bradley and Abreu to close before we can worry a lot. Hopefully, we get one of them. For better or worse, it looks like Marquis can go to the Rockies or Mets. I hope it's the Rockies, and that the throw-in is Mr. and Mrs. Smith's little boy.
