From the Wire….Johnson and Cotts Avoid Arbitration

According to multiple reports, the Cubs avoided arbitration with Reed Johnson and Neal Cotts on Friday by agreeing to one-year contracts with both players. Reed Johnson will earn a $3 million dollar base salary with incentives….an extra $100,000 for 90 starts, $125,000 for 110 starts, $200,000 for 120 starts, $100,000 for 375 plate appearances, $125,000 for 425 plate appearances and $150,000 for 475 plate appearances.

Neal Cotts agreed to a $1.1 million dollar salary for 2009.

With Chad Gaudin ($2 million dollar salary for 2009), Neal Cotts and Reed Johnson signing one-year deals on Friday, the Cubs have only three arbitration eligible players left to sign….Ronny Cedeno, Kevin Gregg and Michael Wuertz, all were tendered contracts before Friday’s deadline.
