Contract Extensions for Piniella and Hendry?

Vote 0 Votes

According to a report in the Sun-Times, the "Cubs appear poised to offer manager Lou Piniella a contract season at the end of the season." The report stated the Cubs have already had talks with Piniella but the "issue was tabled until the off-season." Piniella has one year remaining on his contract after this season and the Cubs have an option for the 2010 season.

Jim Hendry's contract expires at the end of this season and he has an option for 2009 that he can exercise. The report in the Sun-Times mentioned the clause Hendry has in his contract...."assuring another year in the event of the Tribune Co. sale of the team."

I have said before that keeping Hendry is key. He isn't perfect, but has performed alot better than tons of other GM's, and you can't question his dedication after signing Lilly from a hospital bed.

Wood and Dempster both have excellent relationships with Hendry, and that will also be important when we try to resign them (which we should).
