Vocabulary Reduction

Vote 0 Votes

The regular season is coming to an end and the playoffs are just around the corner. With that said, the mainstream media has dusted off their 'Cubs Glossary of Terms' and are ready to remind the Faithful of how long it has been since the Cubs last won a championship.

This season's been full of daily reminders, with that whole anniversary thing, and think about what the players have to deal with on a daily basis and how sick they must be of hearing the same questions....with the same words just rearranged to try to elicit a different response.

In no particular order, here is a list of words and phrases that will hopefully be removed from the Faithful's vocabulary in the weeks to come....

  • Black Cat
  • Billy Goat
  • Curse
  • William Sianis
  • It's Gonna Happen
  • Wait 'Til Next Year
  • This is Our Year
  • 1908
  • Anyone can have a Bad Century
  • Bartman
  • Leon Durham
  • Next Year is Here
  • 1969
  • C.U.B.S. (Completely Useless by September)
  • Alex S. Gonzalez
  • Moises Alou
  • 1945
  • 2003
  • Steve Garvey
  • The cost of a loaf of bread, a house and who was President in 1908
  • But It's The Cubs
  • Mark Prior
  • IT will happen and when IT happens....
  • Futility
  • Damn Mets
  • A Century of Losing
  • Cubbie Occurrence
  • F'ing Marlins

....And the worst of them all:

  • Loveable Losers

There is nothing loveable about being a loser!

Feel free to add to the list of words and phrases you are looking forward to possibly never hearing again....

  • "5 outs away"

...and although not having to do with Cubs past futility:

I hope that I never have to hear any broadcaster or journalist refer to our ballpark as anything but Wrigley Field.

  • Gregg

    Will Clark

  • Cubby Dude

    Doormat of the National League.
