According to a report from the Associated Press on Yahoo Sports, Alfonso Soriano was named the National League Player of the Week on Monday. Soriano hit .516 (16-for-31) with 7 home runs and 14 RBI's....with a 1.258 SLG. According to the AP, Soriano "became only the second leadoff hitter in the last 40 years with consecutive multi-homer contests." Mark DeRosa and Ryan Dempster were also in the running for the award. |

How bout that all you fonsi haters... I understand how the fonz works though so when he was really cold i wasnt looking to kick him out of town becuase i knew one of these stretches was going to happen... in another week or so he'll go 0 for 15 with seven strike outs... its inevitable Fonzi is a streaky player... at least he is carrying the team right now and hopefully continues through Houston (I bet those Crawford boxes are looking really tentalizing to Sori)
Congrats to Sori. Well deserved.
I wouldn't say Soriano is as streaky as your making out Mike but I will agree that when he's hot he's red hot and that make it seem that when he's not that he's going 0-15. But congrat
And I'm changing my opinion about Sori hitting in the lead off spot. But it has nothing to do with him. With the lower half of the lineup hitting like it is, Sori is coming up a lot in RBI situations. If this keeps up, I have no problem with him batting in the lead off spot.
I dont agree with the theory that "your only leadoff once in the game" and that it doesn't matter as much.
But in this case I do.
I was at both saturday and sunday's games. As an outspoken Soriano fan it sucked to watch him slump at the beginning of the year and even more to see how this effected him in the dugout. I was really happy for him this weekend and even more since this award. The way he interacts with the fans between innings, between pitches, between outs are things they rarely show on TV and it was really great.
He seems to really love this game and most importantly Chicago right now. I couldn't be happier for him or this team.
