Soriano Results Expected on Wednesday Morning

Vote 0 Votes

Alfonso Soriano left Tuesday's game in the 1st inning after catching a routine fly ball off the bat of Ken Griffey, Jr. Soriano made his signature hop as he caught the ball but landed wrong and left the game. Reports during the game indicated Soriano strained his right calf. Lou Piniella stated during his post-game press conference that Soriano was having an MRI (late Tuesday night) and the Cubs expect the results on Wednesday morning.

Piniella did not speculate how long he would be out and said he hopes it will be only a couple of days but added, "He might be out for a while." A report on Cubs.com has Soriano's status listed as day to day.

Piniella was asked about the possibility of the Cubs recalling Matt Murton and he responded with that would be up to Jim Hendry. Piniella denied the injury to Soriano was another "Cubbie Occurrence" and said it was just a freak injury.

Will update if more information becomes available....

Soriano and that stupid f-ing hop. I hated that the first time I saw it and I was yelling at my T.V. when he did it tonight before he even came down.

We've seen in the past that he sometimes loses sight of the ball and drops it because of that stupid thing and now this. He says that it's because he's a converted infielder and likes to keep his feet moving while making a play. My ass. It's showboating not unlike when he moonwalked to first after that homer last year and got the team into a fight that cost us DLee for 5 games.

He's really getting on my nerves in the early part of year two of an 8-year deal. One of the most talented baseball players I've ever seen but just as easily one of the most stupid.

Sorry for the rant but obviously I'm very upset about this.

easy Scott...it was a very good game to win tonight, and yes, the injury was unfortunate, but let's make sure we get the facts straight.

There was an article that came out last year about why he did the little crow hop before he catches the ball, and he said that it's not showboating at all or anything like that. He said he had a problem converting to the OF with something about the plane of the ball being different when he'd be running towards it or something....but jumping helped him reach the ball faster, and kept him from making dumb mistakes....I don't know if I told that right or not, and it's too late for me to do my research and find the article, but if someone on here can find it, that'd be cool.

But, yeah, Scott, I do understand the frustration, but I just wanted to comment on it, even though it doesn't necessarily make the situation better with him

Aaron, I do not have a link. But you described it properly.

I think Soriano needs some rest anyway. He's been missing something. He actually looks like injury-prone everyday in Wrigley. If he can stay healthy after he comes back, then I don't need to see him steal. Just get that contact and 2-base-hit, send in runners batting before you.

Soriano is a really gifted player. Although this year he is in a slump to start the year. Now this Injury, it's always something with the Cubs. The one thing that bothers me about Fonzie is that when I watch the games, he shows no hustle he runs to the ball like he is going on a casual stroll. Even when he said he was 100% he was giving forth the equal effort on the field. I hope the injury is minor and he comes back soon, hopefully by then he will be ready to give it all he has day in and day out

Just remember, you can't change a leopard's spots. Soriano style of play is non-chalant and he never hits with men in scoring position. He is probably the best hitter with nobody on base, but with men on, forget about it.
