Alfonso Soriano left Tuesday’s game in the 1st inning after catching a routine fly ball off the bat of Ken Griffey, Jr. Soriano made his signature hop as he caught the ball but landed wrong and left the game. Reports during the game indicated Soriano strained his right calf. Lou Piniella stated during his post-game press conference that Soriano was having an MRI (late Tuesday night) and the Cubs expect the results on Wednesday morning.
Piniella did not speculate how long he would be out and said he hopes it will be only a couple of days but added, “He might be out for a while.” A report on Cubs.com has Soriano’s status listed as day to day. Piniella was asked about the possibility of the Cubs recalling Matt Murton and he responded with that would be up to Jim Hendry. Piniella denied the injury to Soriano was another “Cubbie Occurrence” and said it was just a freak injury.
Will update if more information becomes available….
