According to a report on ESPN 1000 on Saturday morning, the Cubs have recalled Matt Murton from Triple-A Iowa and have optioned Eric Patterson back to Iowa. Murton will be available for Saturday's game against the Pirates.
Matt Murton has good career numbers against the Pirates two southpaws but will not be in the starting lineup for Saturday's game.
Will update if more information becomes available....

so bringing up Patterson was just so he can play against his brother?
Maybe he was late for a meeting again?
Raul...I don't get it either. Why this organization keeps being undecisive and inpatient with the call-ups and sent-downs. I respect JH but it seems like they never have a well thought contingency plan. What good could the Patterson callup can produce for anybody in 2 games? atleast Murton has proven to [not] let the up and down rollercoaster hurt his performance. I would have let him in Iowa...building up value.
I know hes not gonna start the next two games cuz of lefties but I'm curious to see if they actually start him at all. He would he a decent nmber 2 hitter since he has little power and does get on base then maybe he can negate what the scrappy Theriot does at number one. Either way, really odd move by the Cubs.
Matt actually hits lefties very well--so he'll likely start against most of them while Soriano is out. I don't know what's going on today. There could be two reasons why Patterson got the quick up and down: he was being showcased--in which he didn't help his cause. Lou thinks a player should be able to do something good even with a short time opportunity--in which case EPat didn't help himself.
the patterson kid obviously has major potential. but on the other hand, he seems to be cocky. i know all players are that way to a point, but maybe lou did not want to mess with the team chemistry. murton is low key and been here before. patterson may still have some growing up to do
