14-6. Yea, I know, feels pretty darn good. After what can be called a 'somewhat-slow' start, the Cubs are on fire and have ripped off nine victories in their past 11 games. The offense has scored 41 runs in the past four games and our Japanese import is fitting in, well, decently, I guess. So, without further ado, here you go....

  • Hey Ted Lilly, is that you? Were you on the mound at Wrigley Field yesterday? It is so good to see you. How was your off-season?
  • RC COLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • When I thought of that nickname a few years back, I really thought he would pan out, but sooner rather than later. Two years later, he is making it awful hard on Lou. Can you really put him on the bench at this point?
  • I like how I am acting as if he has done this for more than four games.
  • So then there is The Riot. It is hard to put him on the bench as well.
  • And how do you bench DeRo when Soriano comes back? I hate having all these problems. And by 'me', I obviously mean Lou Piniella.
  • Do we really need Soriano to come back? Sorry, I just slapped myself in the face.
  • Soriano started slow last year and ended up batting .299 with 33 homers and 70 RBIs. So be patient, he is a talented player.
  • So, Mr. Dempster, umm, like what did you do in the off-season and stuff? Pure awesomeness dude. Wanna grab a beer sometime?
  • Oh, Marisa Miller. Oh, Marisa Miller. Oh, Marisa Miller. You thought I was jealous of Kerry Wood before? Now there is a picture of him sitting next to hear in the dugout in her Cubs jersey. Hey Marisa, wanna grab a beer sometime?
  • FUK-U-DOME .... I know, I thought it would be up higher as well.
  • Alright, soapbox time. The whole thing with taking Harry Caray's favorite line "Holy Cow" and pronouncing with a Japanese accent is wrong. It is over the line and disrespectful.
  • Back off my soapbox. Marisa, I am serious about that beer. My email address is at the bottom, drop me a line anytime and I will give you a call.
  • Z is looking good. Z is so happy about it. So is Brian. Brian is loving Z's 3-1 record.
  • Just let me know when the third-person thing gets old because I am still enjoying the hell out of it.
  • FUK-U-DOME!!!
  • And don't get confused, Derrek Lee is the heart and soul of this team. He will not back down. Because as the speakers at Wrigley say when the Cubs take the field this year, he is leading the cause and "running down a dream that never would come to me, working on a mystery, going wherever it leads, yea running down a dream"
  • Great audio selection by the sound folks at Wrigley, loving Tom Petty as the game begins.
  • Carlos Marmol is White Castle. I cannot take credit for that one, and if you don't get it, just think about it for awhile.
  • He serves up sliders that make you "expletive" your pants.
  • Geo, Geo, Geo, Geo, Jody, Jody, Jody, Jody .... yes he is bringing me back to the mid-80's baby. Geo, Geo, Geo, Geo.
  • A-Ram is heating up kids. Up to .280 with 5 long balls. Oh this team is making me .... wait for it, wait for it .... EXCITED.
  • We are not going to average 10 runs a game, so the pitching must level out and become a bit more consistent. Lilly's start on Tuesday calmed my nerves .... a bit.
  • Rich Hill, please wake up, look in the mirror and say to yourself, "I am good enough, I am smart enough, and dog-gonnit, people like me." Dude, you are a good pitcher, just believe it.
  • And once more, big props to Jim Hendry on the Reed Johnson acquisition. Again, three weeks does not a season make, but I am encouraged by his performance.
  • FUK-U-DOME!!!
  • Seriously, Marisa, I mean it.

Well, that's it for now ladies and gentlemen. I hope you enjoyed it. I will be back soon with some more ramblings, another podcast and maybe even a new way to entertain and annoy the beloved CCO readers.

Go Cubs!

Hilarious!

You know what? [kids don't try this at home] As soon as I read the words Marissa Miller, I opened up another page in yahoo...typed the name, selected images and BANG!!!!I'm excited! WOW what a Cub fan!

Ok, I'm off to Washington for the weekend series!! Hope we can keep this up. I'll check in later.

I too am off to Wrigley Field east, wait that's Pittsburgh, Wrigley Field far east(D.C.) Always a bunch of Cubs fans there. I hope we see another sweep. Demp, Big Z, and Lilly could make that happen! I'm a little "EXCITED" too. Go Cubs Go!

Hi Fives from Indy, Brian, for the sensational "White Castle" name for C.M. We're proud to be home base for the company, the Colts and the Indy 500 too.

Some of us used to wear our Burger King pants while snarfing sliders at W.C. Pants so named because they are the home of the whopper. Maybe you can get a little more descriptive in your pursuit of Marissa.

What is better yet. What if we would have done the deal to get Brian Roberts? I wonder if RC playing so well now makes Baltimore think again about the deal. I would still love to have the guy but you can't do it now. Maybe not at all. With the way the team is playing why mess with the chemistry.

JimK - I thought White Castle was headquartered in Columbus, Ohio...?

Posted by: cliff | April 23, 2008 11:32 AM

You are right, Cliff. The White Castle HQ is in Columbus, OH. The W.C. building here, that I always thought was the Corp. HQ, is a regionnal HQ. Sorry about that.

Posted by: JimK | April 23, 2008 11:47 AM

omg, that is the best nickname i have ever heard for any sports star ever.

Posted by: jeremy | April 23, 2008 2:04 PM

I'll give you the home base for the Castle, but home of the Colts...big deal, Colts are jerks.

Brian..wake up Brian, wake up. Waking you from an afternoon slumber as Marissa Miller accepts your invite. Sweet Dreams...podcast pal.

Brian,

That's your best work yet. Fabulous!!

Brian:

Classic!!!

A few thoughts....

* You would be grabbing more than a beer if you were with Marissa Miller.

* If two men could procreate, could you imagine the offspring that Marmol and Fukudome could have!

Count me in the RC Cola Fan Club, RC has really shown some nice patience at the plate this year.

White Castle.. I get it. That's funny.

Posted by: Steve in Iowa | April 23, 2008 5:30 PM

All,

Thanks for the kind words. I am glad you enjoyed the nickname. It's not my creation, but still hilarious.

GO CUBS!

Posted by: Brian | April 23, 2008 6:32 PM

Shaun, Now I know that we don't get credit for White Castle either. I guess we we need to down a couple of Miller Lite's or Old Style's for me to learn what makes the Colts jerks. Maybe if we had Rex Grossman, we would be acceptable. I do wish we had Erlacher (sp)in the MLB spot.

Posted by: JimK | April 23, 2008 7:00 PM

I dont get the white castle one...

Posted by: Dorasaga | April 23, 2008 7:08 PM

Dorasaga, Earlier today, I mistakenly I.D.'d Indy as the home of White Castle. It's Columbus, OH.

Posted by: JimK | April 23, 2008 7:16 PM

JimK, do u mean that Marmol grew up in Indiana?

Posted by: Dorasaga | April 23, 2008 7:35 PM

Dorasaga...No. The Indy references I made were to the home of the Colts, Indy 500 and (wrongly) the hamburger restaurant chain, White Castle. As you may know, their small, high fat burgers, popularly called sliders or slyders are about 2-bite size and some say are upsetting to one's digestive tract. Marmol, nicknamed White Castle because he serves up nasty sliders that make hitters crap in their pants, is from Santiago, D.R.
