cactusleague.jpgFor those of you new to the site, the CCO will provide game previews throughout the year that allows readers to discuss the game as it is being played. With the Cubs coming off a division crown and the debut of Fukudome there figures to be plenty of interest in today's exhibition game....despite the fact the game is not televised.

Check back after the game for a full recap from Scottsdale and photos from the first game of the spring.

On a side note, today marks the start of the third season of Cubs baseball on this site.

Let's Talk Cubs Baseball....

Great way to start the season yesterday!!

  • Jason B. from AZ

    Neil,

    Only 250 photos? Slacker...

Well...I have the day off work tomorrow, and the Cubs have their first home ST game tomorrow.

    Coincidence? Hmmm....bwahahahahahaha!

    Old Style here!

  • Neil

Sorry guys for the delay on the recap and photos. I shot a little video, including Fukudome's first at bat and over 250 photos. It is taking me a little time to put this together. I will have everything up soon.

  • Bryan

    Theriot sparks offense!

What a breadth of fresh air and upgrade from the days of Neifi.

  • Brian

Agustin, I am excited. And the ride with Heidi was...well...exciting.

  • Jim (Tinley Park)

    Agustin:

I believe Brian picked up Heidi DeRosa from the Hotel this morning and drove her to the hospital were Mark was having outpatient work done.

  • agustin rexach

Matt, I was waiting for the same thing. Great to hear those words from you Jim!! Great start!

BTW: Neil if you see them; please let Brian and Shaun know… I'M EXCITED!!!

  • Matt Haggard

Thank you, sir! I was waiting on ya. I just had to finally let it out.

  • Jim (Tinley Park)

Sorry, I had a flat tire coming home from work.

    NATION REPRESENT!

    CUBS WIN! CUBS WIN!

  • Matt Haggard

Jim, dunno if youre here or not, but sorry to steak your thunder...

    "Cubs Win, Cubs Win!"

  • Matt Haggard

HR and 3B for Fonty, not to shabby.

  • agustin rexach

I'm allways late for the first day but it seems like it's been a lot of fun today. Helloooooooo baseball!!!!!!!! Hello Talking Live! Wooooooooooohhhhhhooooooooooooooooo!

    Stay tuned.....

Game one of the Cubs vs Tigers 2008 World Series will be held at Wrigley Field. Thanks!

  • Matt Haggard

Ever since becoming a CCO regular a couple of seasons back, Ive started to enjoy ST. When I was younger I could only enjoy the first cpl of innings.

Now, thanks to Neil and all of you, I know who I am watching and what they are playing for. Its also given me a love and appreciation for minor league baseball.

Hauffpair (sp?), Gallagher, etc. These names are interesting to me now. I enjoy this stuff now.

  • roguesqr09

Congrats to DeRosa!! The procedure was a success and he is resting comfortably. per www.chicagocubs.com

  • Gucci

It's great to see the Cubs lineup producing some strong numbers!

  • nick

Pie is a man on a mission!!!!

  • Matt Haggard

Nice, Felix. Spring training has been good for him the past cpl of seasons. Now just make it translate to the big show.

  • cliff

"Fukudome slapped the ball past 3rd base"

If we hear len/bob and pat/ron say this all season I don't care if this guy hits

I read that Tony Gwynn had the number 5.5 written on the toes of his shoes. He did this so that when he was digging into the box he would remember to look to "slap" the ball between the 3rd baseman and the shortstop when he had the opportunity.

  • Matt Haggard

Haha, Scottsdale Stadium is seranading to D-Lee and he still picks up a hit, haha. Hilarious!

  • Matt Haggard

And, and Theriot 3-3. How about them Bayou Boys!

  • nick

Mighty Mike!! The Rajun Cajuns came to play today!!

  • Matt Haggard

You think the Fonty wants a opening day job? Jesus, that sounded like a good shot.

  • nick

Pie with a walk and a double!

  • Matt Haggard

Did anyone make any weight loss bets with Geo this winter? I hope so. If not, I'll bet him a few. I need it, haha, and it seemingly works for him. Is he in similar shape this year, for anyone that has seen him?

  • Gary J

All things considered a pretty good two innings from Dempster. He gave up the bomb (and haven't seen it but by the way the crowd reacted Winn put a real charge in it) but otherwise sounded like he was solid. Ron and Pat sounded fairly complimentary.

  • Austin

"Wow! That one came to eat!" hahahaha I love Ron Santo!

  • Neil

The two pitches Fukudome took were very close. Good eye. Demo's HR was to Wynn on a 2-1 pitch. Looked a lot better last inning...7 pitches

  • Austin

    Dave,

He served up a no-doubter to Rany Winn, but before that had gotten 2 ground ball outs.

  • nick

    Randy Wynn.

That was a much better inning by Dempster.

  • Matt Haggard

Yep, Randy Winn. Fastball apparently right in the zone, no movement. I'll give him a pass...for now. Remember the Cardiac Cubs nickname? Demp was a huge reason for that, haha.

  • Dave in STL

I was a little late... did Dumpster serve up a meatball in the 1st? If so, to whom? I wouldn't be a bit surprised...

  • Dave in STL

Lou promised they'd be more agressive stealing 3rd this season.. I guess practicing early is the way to go.. .nice lead Riot... also, a Cub hitter taking the walk? I'm wondering if I've tuned into the right game....

  • Matt Haggard

Cedeno and Theriot on a double steal. Fukodome is on base twice. This is fun. I know fans can get really overhyped up during ST, but if we do this sort of thing all year..This will be fun.

  • Matt Haggard

Although its only ST, nice patience on the behalf of the Cubs.

  • nick

Way to take a walk Pie THE RIOT 2-2.

  • Matt Haggard

As if Demp pitching one heart attack inducing inning wasnt enough, now we get about 4-7. Yay!

  • Matt Haggard

Dave, I was having the same problems. But I was told to log out and log back in, because they are done renovating the feature for today. Now Im listening.

  • Dave in STL

Is anyone else having trouble connecting to audio via MLB.com? They are pulling the site under construction BS...

  • Matt Haggard

Is that sending a message to Kosuke?

  • Neil

Update from the park... Pie and Fukudome looked great one-hopping the plate in warm-ups.

  • Lows

The walls in the school I work at are made of lead or something because I can't pick up the signal...pretty bogus. Either way, this is a glorious day!

  • Matt Haggard

Alright, alright, alright! Can't wait. Piss on the Cardinals and Sam Zell. Go Demp!

  • nick

If I wasn't at work I would be at home, cooking up some brats opening a bucsh light, and cranking up the computer to Listen to the first cubs broadcast, instead I have to listen to it at work. Stupid Work.

  • Austin

Not much beats this..."Talkin Cubs Live" and the sound of Pat and Ron...I can't wait. I hope Dempster does well and I am really excited to see how Ceda does!

  • nick

It is great to see those Magical Words, "Talkin Cubs Live" Can't wait till game time!!
