According to reports out of Milwaukee and on Cubs.com, Jason Kendall agreed to a 1-year deal on Wednesday with the Milwaukee Brewers. The contract has not been finalized and is pending Kendall passing a physical next week. Financial terms have not been disclosed but the deal does include a vesting option for 2009. Doug Melvin was rumored to be working on the deal for the last week. After Melvin traded Johnny Estrada on Tuesday to the Mets for Guillermo Mota, it was just a matter of time before Kendall agreed to terms.
Once the contract is finalized, the Cubs will receive the Brewers sandwich pick in next year’s draft for compensation.
