Free-Agent Filing Period begins the day after the World Series. Teams have 15 days to negotiate with their player before the player enters the open market. After 15 days a player may sign a new contract with any team.

- 5-8 - General Manager's Meetings in Orlando, Florida
- 7 - Weekend Passes for 23rd Annual Cubs Convention on Sale
- 20 - Day to file reserve lists for all Minor League levels and Major Leagues
- 20 - Last Date to make an off-season outright assignment of an injured player to the Minor Leagues if the player does not meet the requirements listed in Article XIX(C)(b) of the Basic Agreement
